  1. Silent Bob Happy 4th Birthday World of Warcraft

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 28 2008

It's hard to believe this worldwide phenomenon kicked off on Blizzard's servers four years ago (as of November 23rd).

Time sure flies. In that time, we've seen tons of patches to keep content fresh and glitches to a minimum. We've seen two excellent expansions, Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, the latter shattering sales records for any game ever in terms of first day and first week sales.

It has grown into a behemoth success story, one that other developers secretly aspire to. It's a cash cow for its parent company, with 11 million paid subscribers per month. Some of the self-styled "WoW Killers" on the market now have lost players going BACK to WoW after trying others (Age of Conan, Warhammer Online specifically).

The game crosses gender, race, and age lines like no other game I've ever seen. I find it both amusing and interesting that very young players in our game center (eight or nine years old) can carry on intelligent conversation with older players (late 20s, 30s), trading strategies, talking about their latest quests, acquisition of some rare weapon, spell or armor.

Anyway, as a little "thank you" to its loyal (and that' putting it lightly! Wink ) subscribers, Blizzard gave away a free "Baby Blizzard Bear" companion to those who logged in on November 23rd. I know my nephews and my son love their new companion.

    Did you get yours?

This game amazes me. I've never played even one minute for myself, but I've seen how addictive it can be for those that step into Azeroth.

Great game for a game center, great game for my boys. It holds people's attention like nothing else I've ever seen. My youngest son's written communication skills have IMPROVED since he started playing this game, quite the opposite effect that most non-gamers would profess.
