  1. Silent Bob GameStop (Ankeny) Midnight Release for Batman

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Aug 25 2009

Last night my nephew Nick and I stopped out to GameStop in Ankeny for the midnight release of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Ryan (our very own Dead Pixels columnist) was pretty exicted about it and stopped out to our computer shop to remind us. He was jazzed about dressing up as the Joker and said the rest of the crew working were going to dress up as well.

Ryan was laying in wait for anybody driving up, and as soon as I got out of my truck, he ran up with plastic shotgun in hand and a maniacal laugh and took me "hostage" to escort me into the store.

The manager, Lawrence, was decked out as the Dark Knight himself and looked quite imposing, even if people thought Batman "would be taller." Laughing

Seth was dressed as Commissioner Gordon, and Paisley was (who else?) Harley Quinn.

Everybody looked great, and their enthusiasm was good to see. They took all kinds of photos that I'm anxious to see posted (or email, Ryan, to me at cbrodeur@hotmail.com). Ryan's costume was spot-on, and he took a special pleasure in letting his inner sociopath out for the night. Shocked

There were fewer people that came out for this game compared to bigger midnight releases like Halo, Gears, GTA IV, etc., but everybody still had a good time.

I personally enjoyed seeing the GameStop employees able to cut loose a little bit. It's hard to be professional 100% of the time, so you get to see a little more of their personalities this way.

I was a little underwhelmed with the plastic batarang in my Special Edition, but the other items were pretty cool. I think the case that holds everything is probably the coolest thing in the whole package. Now hopefully I can play the game. I know Jack didn't think much of it, but I'm hearing nothing but positive buzz and reading excellent reviews. Different strokes, eh Jack?

I was underwhelmed with the Batarang as well. I actually took Dr. Young's notebook that came with the special edition to work with me last night. Good thing I did because it was so dead.
