  1. HAX9000 assassins creed

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 05 2007

So I rented assassins creed this week, so far I am intrigued, but not all that impressed. Here is my overall take...

The good first- The cities are well made, I love being able to go anywhere. The premise of the game is interesting, but I would have liked it to be a purely period game, none of this future nonsense. The assassination mechanics are pretty well implemented, and it is fun to blend in with the crowd only to strike and run.

Now the bad- After the tutorial about benches, birds, monks, and people with bottles on their heads I started to notice all of them. Everywhere I looked there were hay bales, benches with 2 people on them (with one open seat just for you!), and flocks of birds that pointed the way. After awhile playing the game these things started to pop out as badly as if there was a huge red sign saying quick HIDE HERE, or SIT THERE. It really pulled me out of the experience. My next big gripe is with the combat system. It felt like I was just button mashing (with a hint of skill to get the timing right). I would have liked to just dumped in the combat system from Ninja Gaiden. But my biggest gripe has to be the overly done "opps I used to be Uber, but now I have to regain all my skills" plot device that WAY too many games use lately. And for a game that was supposed to be super innovative it seemed like a huge cut corner. I can understand stripping weapons away, but losing all my fighting skills just because I got demoted? Whats up with that? Anyway, the game looks beautiful, and if you can look past the tired plot devices then it could be a great time. Just not my kinda game.
