  1. BEN GoG/NinjaBee Game Night Highlights

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 11 2008

I'm sorry, but last night was the best GoG Game Night ever! We hooked up with some folks over at NinjaBee and played their great game, A Kingdom For Keflings for hours.

The conversation was amazing and all of us found ourselves barely even playing the game at some points throughout the night, because the questions, answers, and overall discussions were so interesting! With the multiplayer mode only supporting 4 people in a single AKFK game at a time, we also had people playing other games (such as Band of Bugs from NinjaBee) as they also enjoying the conversation within our 6-8 person Xbox Live party.

The party started at 7pm sharp and we completed the GoG Kingdom first, by building the castle and polishing the empire. Naturally we had Valerie, Steve, and Lane from NinjaBee add their banner towers to the kingdom, so I'd say that project is complete Very Happy

We then moved along to a new game that Steve (the Lead Developer for AKFK & Co-Founder of the entire company) had setup. We continued the great conversation and after awhile of playing, I realized I had not even built ONE structure. My time to bounce was nearing, so I dedicated myself to the Brick Mason before I called it an evening, lol. I'm not sure how long people continued to play after I left or who else from NinjaBee stopped by to chat, but I know Dynafire, codeh4x0r, and a few others were still playing so maybe they have a Chronicle to add to last evening's event.

Overall, my personal favorite part of last night was being able to get to know Valerie better, being introduced to Steve and Lane, who are the masterminds behind this (and many other) video game development projects, and allowing members of this community to chat with smart people in the heat of developing the games we love and play every day.

Of course the conversation was casual, fun, and friendly...but we also had a real chance to hack into the minds that developed the game we were playing and really get a sense of how their team develops video games. We also got some inside tips, facts, and ideas from the NinjaBee crew, who obvious knew everything about the game that they had built. As a previous wanna-be game developer, it was a special experience and I look forward to doing it again when their next game releases in 10 days!

I'm still on such a high from last night's GoG Game Night! For those of you who planned to make it, but missed out, be sure to join us next time because it's quite the experience.

Thanks for the chronicle on this one, Ben. Sounds like a great time. I enjoy the "behind-the-scenes" stuff immensely, so this would have been a real treat.
