  1. BEN Video Game Review - NBA Live 07

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jan 13 2009

As every sports video game does, the moment a more recent edition of the specific title is released, the value of the "old" game almost immediately plummets.

As was the case for a lonely copy of EA Sports NBA Live 07, when I saw it on the Hollywood Video shelf used, for only $7.99.

After my recent enjoyment of NBA Jam at the Winter Wonder LAN in Chicago, I couldn't pass up this game that costs just a little bit more than the actual disc and allowed me to still give LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers a try! haha

I used to love the NBA Live video games, when they were first being developed for the SNES. NBA Live 95 was the first title by the way Wink

It had been a long time since I played, let alone owned, a NBA Live video game from EA Sports, but for the price, I couldn't ask for a more enjoyable experience.

I played an exhibition game first, before getting Dynasty Mode started. With no plans of actually playing through a whole season, I found the game fun and a nice change of pace. I drifted through the season by only playing the games that sounded interesting, and thanks to some simulated wins, I was moving along to the 2007 NBA Playoffs Laughing

I played most of the playoff games and with only one forced restart (I know, that's cheap), my Cleveland Cavs took home the title. lol

I know it's odd to review an old sports game, once 1-2 new versions have dropped, but NBA Live 07 surprised me with pretty solid graphics, cool soundtrack, and enjoyable game play.

Other minor things that I appreciated included free throws were pretty easy to make, the game flow/buttons were easy to learn, and the multiple camera options allowed you to get back to a similar angle as what I used to enjoy in the 90's.

The only minor thing that disappointed me was the limited amount of achievements that were available for Dynasty Mode. Not worry too much about my own GamerScore, but still enjoying the occasion surprise, I researched and found there around 15 available achievements in this game. I may have to try and grab one or two, but I received none during single player action.

I honestly feel that this game is utilizing new technology on the Xbox 360, but has somehow reconnected me with the good 'ol days of NBA Live.

    Rating: 7.002/10
