  1. BEN GoGcast - Season 1 Thoughts

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 23 2009

As the GoGcast Season 1 Finale went online last weekend, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on this "Community Driven Podcast" that we developed over the past 11-12 weeks.

As I hope many of you know and have experienced, for months people had been asking for a GatheringofGamers.com podcast and since mid-December 2008 we've been providing a weekly GoGcast show within this video game community. We had been connecting members to other video game related podcast shows before this unique GoGcast went live, but it was time to bring our own show out to play and looking back at all 10 GoGcast episodes...I must admit that I'm glad we did!

From the very first show of Season 1, to the Season Finale episode, each week's recording had 5-12 guests and GoG Members sharing in the unique and fun conversations. I think this primary element is what kept every show fresh and sets our GoGcast apart from many other podcast productions.

The GoGcast discussions were different and uniquely interesting each week, but at the same time, it was not too time-related, which in my opinion, allows for a much long-lasting effect. Even with a few game-specific conversation here and there, I believe a listener could seriously enjoy Episode 1-10 today, tomorrow, or 6 months from now Shocked

Even with that unique characteristic, the show production was still very dedicated and was recorded almost every week at the exact same time and place. After the recordings were done each week, I did my very best to have the entire show edited and online within a day or two of the recording date. A few times we even had it online the SAME day! RyuBlitz helped me with the compression and Live Stream work, so thanks to him for keeping us on track as well.

My hope was always that if we created a sense of weekly consistency, our members and loyal listeners would always look forward to the next episode being available each week, and they were never let down.

We did miss a single week of recording this show, because our team was in Florida running a video game event for BlackBerry in January. There was also Episode 4, were I had to do the whole recording myself in order to keep things flowing and to cover the Winter Wonder LAN for us, but overall I have to think this project was a huge success.

To me, Episodes 1, 5, 7, and 10 are the most interesting. I won't go into the details of why and let you form your own opinions, but in the back of my mind, I hope this "off-season" will allow us to rest, enhance our recording equipment, gather more interest, and continue to develop new ideas for the show...but I also hope this time allows people the chance to catch up and enjoy each and every one of the shows we put a lot of effort into developing. I think we plan to organize them into it's own area around here, so all the shows should be available in one form or another for everyone Very Happy

Anyways, I'm starting to get a bit windy on this Chronicle, but this was a project that I took a lot of ownership in and I hope you've enjoyed what we did over the past 10 GoGcast episodes. For those of your who joined in the weekly conversations...THANK YOU; for those of you who listened...THANK YOU; and for those of you who added to the ongoing GoG Forum conversations for each episode...THANK YOU!

We have plans to bring the show back very soon and I'd encourage YOU to get involved for Season 2! I hosted this season's shows, but we're always looking for new guests and even people who may want to take over the unique opportunity of running these fun shows. New ideas are also encouraged and the GoG Forum will continue to buzz with show-specific and general conversations oriented towards this unique element of our community.

A special thanks to Dynafire for his dedication from the very beginning, RyuBlitz for his behind-the-scenes work, LadyLiliBean/Link/Roadkill93/Jack Daniels624 for their consistent participation, NinjaBee/Carolina Games Summit representatives for making the Season 1 Finale show so amazing, and to EACH person who joined us and enjoyed this inaugural season of the podcast that will always represent this unique and growing community just for gamers...The GoGcast...only on www.GatheringofGamers.com!

WOO! I was specially thanked! I'm so used to being only regularily thanked! I already posted a message on the forum to start to get some ideas rolling for next season (it's under the first topic I believe). Here's to a great season, chronicle, and for more great seasons to come *cheers*
