  1. BEN Video Game Review - Mad World (Rated M)

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Apr 28 2009

This week I got the old Wii plugged back in and was blown away by Mad World. I've only gotten through the first few levels, but I must admit this is a side of the Wii I haven't seen before.

In short, this game is violent just to be violent; horrible for anyone under the age of 18; has the F bomb more than I've heard in awhile; uses graphic commentary; and at the same time...is awesome Wink

The style of this game, as you've heard I'm sure, is pretty unique. It has a strong comic book flavor, with a Sin City/The Spirit twist. Most of the environment is in Black/White. The blood however, which there is not a shortage of, is bright red and flying all over the place. There are also fun little text-describing animations that remind me of the old school Batman...KAPOW...SWOOSH Laughing

I suppose anytime you get more points for a more violent kill, you're going to have a game that promotes the nastiest ways to decapitate your enemy. I think they kept the game grounded by not having the enemies very realistic or human-like. Even with that being said, anytime you're wrapping a tire around a guy, shoving multiple street signs through his throat, slamming a trash can on his head, pulling him over to slam him against a spiked wall 3-4 times, and then leaving him to drip...you're going to get a M rating! lol

That M rating also covers the soundtrack and commentary that is riddled with the F bomb and comments such as, "That guy is as clueless as the girl I slipped roofies to last night". I mean come on, they've made this game hard to play even in front of my fiancé!

I know the chainsaw is something a lot of people have also seen from this game. This weapon is semi-built into your arm, but I haven't used it too much. I personally have enjoyed using my environment to impale the enemy, but the chainsaw is a quick kill when you need it and the finishing moves are simply gruesome.

Speaking of finishing moves, I haven't seen them all I'm sure, but I have thrust my chainsaw into a guy, watched him squirm, and then pulled up on the Wiimote to slice him in half, as well as, pulled his heart out and crushed it in my own bare hand, haha.

Needless to say, this Black/White game quickly becomes a colorful red with the amount of killing that is required. I would be VERY hesitant to let any minor you care about play this game, but if you're mature enough, it's quite a unique Wii experience and might just be enough to get you back on those nunchucks again Shocked

While I haven't been able to play nearly as much of this game as desired (go go SkyBlitz development), I immediately loved the overall presentation of the game. Like you touched on Ben, it's akin to playing Sin City: the Game. If you enjoyed this game (and this side of the Wii), I highly recommend you play No More Heroes.

I played this game some at a friends house. My only wish was that it was multi-platform so I could buy it for the 360. Sad

Huh...I might junk my Blockbuster gamepass and just go to Gamefly...I like Netflix, and I'm patient so I don't see why not. I'll probobly end up playing this. About the "never seen this side of the Wii before" check out No More Heroes. That game got extremely good ratings...It seems right up my alley, but I completely hated...So that's why I'm so iffy about this game...Still I will try it.
