  1. BEN Halo 3 - Chapter 2

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 08 2007

So Halo 3 has been out for 2 weeks now and it’s time for Chapter 2, of my ongoing Chronicle to review this legendary video game.

I continue to enjoy this game and other games are rarely in my 360 because it’s the only game we play. I know my Halo 2 skills are coming into play, but it is taking some time to get used to the shortened 1v1 battles and more condensed grenade blasts. I've also noticed you have to be closer to an enemy if you’re looking to get that good old butt kill. The more detailed game stats are great and the additional medals/awards are cool, not to mention a fun thing to do while you wait for the next game.

The new maps are great, but I wish they would have enhanced more old maps to add to the list. The new Zanzibar is great! I'm sure they have more coming in an update, but I’m also betting they'll charge us all for it, haha

Campaign is still something we do, only when Bungie servers are having problems or we can't get an online game, but it has been fun to work through with a friend. I'd like to play some campaign online or with more than 2 players, but we’re still too obsessed with general slayer play. I’m sure many of you understand what I’m talking about.

In general, Halo 3 continues to amaze me and I have to really dig deep to find problems or things I don't like. I feel like Bungie is somewhat struggling on the networking side of things but I’m sure they'll work the bugs out as the traffic becomes more consistent. I'd like to shift and conclude this chapter with a brief summary of how this game is different from other games.

Last Friday night, we had a small Halo party over at my place. I invited 3-4 of my friends and also invited 4-5 GoG members. We had 9-10 people over around 7pm, a few people I didn’t even know, but after we had the duel screens and linked Xbox's put together, everyone was immediate friends. With some pizza and drinks to break up the insanity we all pilled into my basement and rocked Halo until the last person left around 4:30 AM!! Never did we take Halo out of the 360's and I think that says more than any video game review can! We found Infection to be the best new game type, but also enjoyed the classics. I also enjoyed the fact that there were gamers that had never played Halo and a few more experienced players, but almost every game ended with some close scoring drama!

Thanks to all those guys that were there and I look forward to doing it again very soon. See everyone at this month's GoG/SCI Gaming Event, October 11 from 6-8pm, as we once again highlight Halo 3. Same 8 person setup, but this time we’re be rocking in a 50ft dome, Star Theater with Surround Sound and we’ve only got 2 hours to enjoy it...get there early because if you live in Iowa and you’re a Halo fan, you’ll want to see this...
