  1. BEN Fairytale From A Married Man

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 07 2009

Jodie and I have returned from our wedding/honeymoon adventure and I’m very proud to say I’m a married man!

You never imagine a person that could complete you and make you confident that your remaining years of life will be shared with that person, but I was lucky enough to find someone like this.

As I shared in my previewing Chronicle, Jodie and I brought our family down to West Palm Beach, Florida (Singer Island to be exact) and along with a ton of fun with both of our close families; we held a perfect wedding ceremony in a gazebo overlooking the ocean at The Resort at Singer Island on June 25th, 2009.

I won’t share much on all the fun we had outside of the wedding, but I will say one of my biggest joys was to see our two families having so much fun together throughout the entire time we were there. We had a few days before the wedding, so that allowed everyone to relax and prepare for why we were together in paradise.

I’ve always wanted a beach wedding and Jodie had the same desires, so this destination/beach wedding approach is something I know we would both recommend. It allows the love, excitement, and focus of such a monumental event to remain on the wedding, instead of the stress that can be caused by managing a large amount of family and friends…some you may not even know, haha. Nothing against larger weddings of course, but that’s just my plug for destination weddings I suppose.

Now this doesn’t mean that we won’t be celebrating without other family and close friends. I’ll say something about the honeymoon in a moment, but this was a nice spot to share my excitement for our wedding party this Friday here in Des Moines. We’ve invited 100ish folks to join us for cocktails, food, dancing, laughing, stories, photos, and a downright good time. RyuBlitz will be in attendance, and if I could afford it, I’d invite each of our 4,035 GoG members to come together and celebrate as well…but we might just have to have a virtual pool/pizza party instead, haha. Nonetheless, photos will follow I’m sure and with the cast that will be getting together for this night, I’m certain there will be some stories to tell.

Anyways, back to the wedding/honeymoon story…

We had another day or two after the wedding ceremony to enjoy the rest of what Singer Island had to offer, before the family headed home and we departed for Maui, Hawaii to enjoy our honeymoon together. Getting to Hawaii from Florida was quite a trip, but we traveled against time and made it from the Atlantic Ocean, over to the middle of the Pacific Ocean that same day.

These long flights to Florida, Hawaii, and back home game me time to dive deep in Hot Shots Golf 2 on my PSP. This game has great re-playability and had my eyes burning from so much game play, haha!

Once we arrived, we chose to go with a convertible and headed to the Westin Resort there in Maui. This place was beautiful and a true definition of paradise, but the rooms could have been more impressive (in case you’re thinking about visiting).

We relaxed the first day, but the following 5 days were filled with perfect 87 degree weather (the forecasting job in Hawaii is about as easy as it comes!), an uber-relaxing spa experience together, an awesome snorkeling sail to Molokini (sunken volcano island), the classic Hawaiian Luau, a sunset sail on a different catamaran, me trying to surf again, and plenty of tropical drinks with pool/beach fun.

I was off the grid forever and loved every minute of it. My cell phone was off so long that my numerous voicemails were all deleted because they were there too long and although I’m sad to say it, I didn’t get on a computer or the GoG even once while I was away.

I was still informed of the 4,000 GoG milestone with a text from RyuBlitz, so thanks for that little gift everyone! You’ll see some photos of Jodie and I celebrating the milestone in our own way soon Wink

To close this fairytale, I must say that this experience has been exactly what I envisioned of a perfect wedding/honeymoon/party. I’d like to thank both of our families for sharing such a special occasion with us, friends who will be celebrating with us this weekend, the kind words many of you have shared around this unique video game community, all the planning that went into making everything so epic and smooth, and most of all…Jodie…the love of my life.

Your love, support, friendship, intelligence, beauty, and commitment have truly driven me to be the best I can in this life we live. I love you with my everything and am proud to be a married man.
