  1. BEN Social Media Invades Xbox Live!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 18 2009

They've always said that gaming would continue to integrate into our lives and create a one-stop-shop for all your entertainment needs, right?!

Well, as it was highlighted at E3 2009, Xbox Live can now connect you with your Facebook and Twitter accounts, directly through your Xbox 360! There are a few tutorials, but look in the COMMUNITY area of your dashboard (must be a Gold XBL member) and you should be able to find your way.

A few other services such as last.fm and Zune have also been connected to your online experience. Although I don't have much experience with these two services, I've enjoyed getting familiarized with how Microsoft has connected us to these Social Media juggernauts.

After reviewing the functionalities so far, I think I expected a little more on the side of connecting your Facebook friends with your XBL friends (and visa versa), but I suppose there are ways it can be done. I guess I was being kinda slutty and wanted a one click friend request to be sent, haha!

The profile interaction, status updating, photo viewing, and friend connecting elements aren't as powerful as if you were on the actual websites, but they're close. The Twitter integration is pretty simple, as it should be; while the Facebook area seems to have it's own little application within the XBL Dashboard.

I think they've got a pretty polished version of these new tools in this first integration, but I'm sure more will come. Whether that be more functionality within the current sites, or maybe allowing more social media outlets to be exposed through the Xbox 360. I for one, would LOVE to see some GoG integration someday Wink

Anyways, I'm sure you've seen this already, as it's plastered everyone on the XBL Dashboard right now, so feel free to share your thoughts on this new social media outlet either here with a comment, or even better, over in the GoG Forum where everyone is talking...
