  1. BEN Video Game Review - Dead Rising 2

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 18 2010

With Dead Rising being the first title I experienced on the Xbox 360 when it released back in the day and Halloween 2010 right around the corner, I had to pick up the sequel to see how far Dead Rising 2 has come.

Dead Rising 2, for those neophytes out there, is a game all about zombies. You'll find the game play is bit slower than other run and gun games, but with so many zombies all around you, you'll be glad to have a little extra time to destroy these monsters.

I know the developers were talking about the huge increase of on-screen zombies for this sequel, but I didn't notice that very much. Zombies were everywhere in the first Dead Rising and once again, they are everywhere. I like how you can run through a crowded area and basically avoid any confrontations, while it's just as easy to get caught up killing hundreds of nasty undead, haha.

The combo weapons is a really neat concept. The simple ones are fun to use and although I doubt I dive deep enough to experience them all, each devastating combination is hilarious. I recently unlocked an air horn combined with a construction cone, while the baseball bat full of nails is my most used weapon early in the game.

Graphics are solid and the gore in this game is more like jelly than blood to me. I think it could have been a lot more graphic, but I also think the developers are going more for a fun experience than a horror atmosphere. Even with the jelly-flavored blood, you're still chopping up undead humans, so it definitely deserves the Mature rating.

With a daughter to save, weapons to enjoy, money to gain, hot chicks to talk with, leveling up, people to save, missions to do, and endless zombies to kill - Dead Rising 2 will really entertain a lot of gamers. I likely won't beat the game before I take back this rental copy, but I wanted to share some quick thoughts and I hope you'll do the same!
