  1. BEN Gears of War 3 - BETA

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 30 2011

I was a few weeks behind so many others who jumped right into the Gears of War 3 BETA, but after a week or so of enjoying this soon-to-be huge shooter, I have a new love for this title.

When Gears of War first released, our crew was hardcore into Halo 2 and even though we tried, my friends and I just could not get into this title. Gears of War 2 dropped a few years later and once again, I just didn't care. It was neat to see GoW2 being played for awhile on the MLG Pro Circuit, yet it was just a title that I couldn't get into.

    That has changed.

Since TIPGC, the two shooters I'm been looking forward to have been Gears of War 3 and Battlefield 3. After the delayed access to this beta version, I'm glad to get a sneak peak at what GoW3 is all about! Even with stats, rankings, and achievement being wiped before the full game is released, I've REALLY enjoyed playing this game Very Happy

Gameplay really flows, as you're barely ever in a lobby. This is cool, but it seems like communication and partying with friends may be a little more difficult. Nonetheless, once you're playing, the weapons are similiar to past GoW titles, with a few power weapons that are a lot of fun to use.

I have a pretty strong grasp of these first few maps and how each weapon can be used. With large clips, it's tempting to unload your automatic weapons, but short burst seem to down those opponents more effectively. I'm not sure how the executions are chosen when you finish off a downed enemy, but it sure is fun to finish people off...even when it exposes you to more enemy fire.

Gears of War 3 continues to be gory and gruesome. I'm excited to get XBL parties going, so the game can take a little more of a strategic flavor. For now, I've enjoyed the game a lot.

I'm sure many of you are enjoying this beta as well. It will be tough to watch the beta go offline, in order to wait for the full game to release September 20th, 2011. I really think big games benefit from beta testing. It gives the title more hype, increases pre-sales, while also allowing the developers to polish and squash any remaining bugs.

My hesitation towards Gears of War has been removed. I'll continue to play this beta until it's taken away from me...then I'll be buying Gears of War 3 on the first day it's released!
