Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 25 2008

Alright, I'm not a huge SSB player, but last night we had a group over to play some Brawl on the Wii. It was the first time for two of us and still new to the others.

I never really played the first one, so I was on a steep learning curve. I guess it didn't help that we didn't have the Wii's classic controllers, because it was tough to maneuver the Wiimote I was using! Needless to say, I won one match and it was with Princess, by floating around all game and luckily beating the remaining player when the dust had settled Laughing The rest of the time, I basically ran around trying to even see my character and maybe doing a little damage here and there?!

I understand to really enjoy a game, you have to spend some time with it and learn how things work, as well as, the button layout, but for some reason and to my gamer soul's dismay, I just don't enjoy this game very much.

I know, I know, I know...as a "gamer", I must like this game and cherish it as the best game ever developed, but I just don't see it. There are alot of fun levels, characters, and extra weapons, but I fail to understand the phenomenon!?

It's fun and people get excited about it, in fact I guarantee we'll have a GoG tournament surrounding the game, but for me, it just doesn't quite fit my taste.

[alright, now I'll go hide in the corner while people take their shots at me]

    Another tip:
Don't underestimate the power of Kirby. He's light and fluffy on the inside, but he's a master chef (as Ben already knows from the final smash many times over).

Brawl is actually the third installment in the series, so there are players that have been at it for over 9 years now. Shocked Don't worry if you feel a little behind the curve.

If you want a few quick and easy ways to greatly improve your experience with Brawl, here are some tips:
    - Get a Gamecube controller. It makes a huge difference.
    - Use a name for your character. It'll be a lot easier for you visually.
    - Play through Classic on Easy with a couple of characters. Try to use all of different types of attacks. You'll quickly find out what you do and don't like, and then you can refine your character choices off of those likes and dislikes.
    - Call me next time you play. Having me there makes everything better. Wink
