  1. BEN Mario Kart (Wii) First Impressions

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 07 2008

For myself, I've been waiting for two video games recently, GTA4 & Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii. They both came out within a week of each other and I have to say, the only thing they have in common is that you can drive in both games, haha!

I'll start first with Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii, because it came out first and because I've played more of it. I grabbed it from GameHQOnline.com (which you've seen the banner ads for here) and although I didn't get it on the actual day of release, the game was shipped right to my door with GTA4, so I can't complain Very Happy

Anyways, I first played with Jodie first, which to me means it's already going to be great game. Like Super Mario Galaxy that we recently beat together, this is a gaming experience that gamers of all ages and gender will enjoy and I think that says more than most people give credit for. (Definitely a family game!) I like the mixture of new tracks and characters, but I'm also glad Nintendo decided not only to bring back some tracks from the past, but also tell you which titles they were from. To literally have the track marked with what console it first came out on is such a simple move on their part, but it makes it fun to recognize the track and it somehow brings you back to when you first enjoyed this classic.

The character list is sufficient and although it doesn't have the extensiveness of say, Super Smash Brothers, the multiple choices in cars make up for the gameplay options and still gives you things to unlock.

I like how the developers stayed true to things that made the originals so special, while still enhancing the game with graphics, new tracks, and o yeah...the STEERING WHEEL! Although you can use the traditional controller to play this game, you almost morally have to play it with the full steering wheel effect. As almost all of you know, the Wiimote fits snug into a wireless steering wheel, about the size of a personal pan pizza, lol. You and your friends will find you can even get tired because of the intense/fun racing action and get those wrists warmed up, because you'll be twisting and turning that wireless steering wheel all game long!

The general usage of special toys/weapons(what would you call them without looking up the exact answer?!) are still in play and with a few new ones, you're always eager to use that red shell, star, or my personal favorite if you're far behind...the bullet! This bad boy takes you automatically towards the front while taking out the competition in your way! There are plenty of these special items and I'm sure you'll enjoy getting to know them all. I heard someone on here say that there was too many of these, but to me it seems very comparable to the distribution used in past titles.

Lastly, and since I've only unlocked up to the Lighting Circuit and haven't raced online at all yet, I can't say much more, but overall I'm a fan of the new yet still classic racing game that Nintendo has got with Mario Kart for the Wii. They have once again push the limits of personal gaming controllers and shown how motion sensor technology can take a simple game to the next level!

This is one to buy and even buy more controllers to use with friends. You have this game going on at a party with friends of any age and it's sure to be a hit!

I just love this game, I can't wait to get a wii I think I'll buy one for my birthday. I think this game is the primary reason to buy a wii, but the game play is so awsome. You can pick different karts and bikes. You can jump on hills and ramps, the items are limitless. Online gameplay makes it even better because you can challenge your abilities to other people. The only thing is I wish you could talk to people online that would be better. Only it's nintendo and little kids play it too so nintendo was really careful about that.

So over the weekend and on Mother's Day, my family and I all enjoyed this game for the Wii...I think that says even more for a video game, when it can turn people who might not consider themselves "gamers", into loud, laughing, and exciting video game enthusiasts Laughing

Now all I need, is to get 2 more controllers so we can enjoy the full 4-player experience!!!

I had this at the midnight release. It's been wildly popular already at the game center. I'm glad we got some extra wheels. I thought everybody would want to use GameCube controllers to be more competitive, but I was wrong. The wheel is just too fun!

A lot of retailers I've spoken to said this has been flying off the shelves as you'd suspect. However, their personnel in charge of ordering screwed up by only getting in enough extra wheels to sell one with each game purchased. With the first several buyers each snapping up 3 extra wheels for the ultimate 4-player party fun, they soon ran out all over the place.

Rest assured they'll be shipping more wheels. Also, buy now to get your first wheel free because future shipments of the game will be the game ONLY, not the game/wheel bundle for the same price.
