Advertising in Video Games
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 26 2007
What do you think about driving by a billboard in a racing game or walking by an advertisement in a shooter?
It seems like the opportunity for Corporate America to bleed into the somewhat untouched market of video games in inevitable. I read an article in this month's Wired that was saying even though it's a growing market, the gamers aren't focusing on the actual ads. They suggested that corporate sponsorship of actual develop (like Discovery Channel's work with Gears of War) is the best way to INHANCE a game with advertisement, rather than take away from the game.
I think this is the correct route to take when looking at advertising with game companies. It’s even the same with this site. We’d rather have a company support the development of new toys within the GoG and be noticed for their support! I bet the billboard ads and sponsored items within the games of the future will exist, but I hope these companies understand that gamers will appreciate actual developments in the games, much more than have a coffee cup have the Starbuck’s logo on the side!
I think there's an endless opportunity for game makers to work with advertising companies, but what are your thought? Comment below...
