  1. BEN NYC Trip Summary

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Sep 11 2008

As some of you may have seen, I was New York City the last two nights, for a site visit meeting with our client for an upcoming video game event we're managing. To cure your possible curiosity and so I can have it Chronicled for myself, here's a short summary from my night on the town and our meeting on Wednesday Very Happy

    Tuesday Night
I got into town and after a short meeting and getting settled into the Hilton near Times Square, I walked aimlessly around the hotel and could tell I was close to Times Square. I had plans to meet Chris/KSI Legacy, since we had been together at E3 in Cali and he lives in NYC, so I walked back to the hotel and ended up meeting him over at the Rockefeller Center. Chris had a friend with him and together, we went to the top of this massive building! It was amazing and that's where some of my recently posted photos were taken.

We enjoyed that and then I headed over to meet the group we are working with, because they were out on the town with friends. Long story short, I had my own personal adventure trying to find this little piano bar and with a lucky guess in the subway I did it! We had drinks all night and with another lucky subway experience, I found myself in Times Square at 3am. It was surreal seeing such a normally busy place so quite! I stopped into the huge McDonald's for a late night snack (which sucked) and had a fun conversation with a friend before finally calling it a day.

I got back into the hotel and enjoyed seeing how many new clans and members we had brought in, then finally went to bed and started getting very excited to meet the main client and looking at each of the sites we planned to visit.

    Wednesday
All the sites we looked at were in Times Square, so naturally they were all awesome.

We started a little before noon at ESPN Zone, which is where we initially thought the event would be. With tons of TVs and a great space for a client-based event, this will have the most direct gaming opportunities. We enjoyed lunch with the event coordinator and her assistant, then moved along.

Next, we went to Planet Hollywood and I'll keep it short...I'd never host an event there and I plan to never go back for my own interests either. It was movie-themed, yes, but crappy nonetheless.

The Hard Rock Cafe was after that and it was a treat to check out this space. We found out that Aerosmith had their Guitar Hero: Aerosmith press conference and release party at this same location, so although they did something different than what we're looking at, it was still cool to see everything we could do with this option.

Last, we visited a private club/theater called SpotLight Live. This would have to be my favorite option out of all the places we visited, just because the atmosphere is super BA and the stage is almost perfect for our Guitar Hero 4 flavored event!

We'll see what the client choses, but it was quite a treat being a part of this and we're very excited to go back November 5th to help rock the house!

    Thursday
I flew out of New York on 9/11, which had a weird feel to it because it is the 7th anniversary of the terror attacks today. I did arrive back in Des Moines right around noon...just in time to do some work, write this, and get ready for a vacation out to California's Wine Country...which I'll write about next Very Happy

Awesome, glad to hear that the trip was a success. Have fun in Cali and good luck with your next "ehum" venture. Wink
