  1. Lotus218 Halo 2 Tips and Strategies

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 05 2007

I know not many still play Halo 2 but here are some usefull things if you still do.

    Halo 2

    Strategy Guide

    Human Weapons:

Battle Rifle: A great all round gun, my favorite gun in the game. It is highly accurate, and has the ability to kill in 4 shots on a full shielded target. One of the best things to do is use this gun with the Plasma Pistol, also known as the “noob” combo. There are some button glitches that makes this gun even more useful. The BXR is a melee attack immediately followed by the reload button, and the trigger. Extremely useful at close range combat. Another is the double shot. It is a glitch where it fires 6 rounds out of the BR in a quick succession. However I do not agree with these button glitches. I do not condemn them from being used.

SMG: A dumb downed version of the MA5B assault rifle that we are all familiar with in Halo CE. I find it best to use this gun in close range combat where you can melee an opponent. I believe it is also good to duel wield with the covenant plasma rifle, or plasma pistol.

Shotgun: In my opinion, it’s not as good as the original shotgun in Halo CE. It does not have as long of a range shot as it originally did. Sometimes I feel robbed with this gun. However, it is an extremely effective weapon at close range combat. I found it very useful to fire the shotgun and immediately follow with a cack. That way if your first shot doesn’t kill them, the cack will.

Pistol: Almost a useless gun in the game. After the update a year or so ago, the pistol has been toned down quite a bit. With the last update, the power of the pistol has been dropped, so has the accuracy. However the best use I found for the pistol is to duel wield with it. The best duel wielding combos I found for this gun is the plasma rifle, plasma pistol, and the SMG.

Sniper Rifle: A very useful gun in the game. Games are won with accurate shots. Whether it would be in CTF shooting the flag carrier across the map, to Slayer. The sniper rifle allows the user to get kill from a safe distance from other players. However it is extremely inaccurate at close range. One thing I would practice on is your No Scope capabilities just in case your are taken by surprise. I like to follow each point blank shot with a melee attack and hopefully injure the opponent that is attacking me, and hopefully killing them. Another good pointer with this gun is to pair it with a weapon that can get the job done at close range.

    Covenant Weapons:

Carbine: The Carbine is the Covenant answer to the Battle Rifle. It is very effective at mid to long range combat. Unlike the Battle Rifle, it only shoots one projectile at a time instead of the three shot burst. It is a little bit more challenging to use the “noob” combo with this gun, but it is just as effective as the BR.

Plasma Rifle: A rifle that fires plasma bursts instead of projectiles. It is very effective at taking out shields, but it has a tough time killing the opponent itself. I like to use this gun in close range combat. I would shot an enemy a couple times and use the melee attack against them. It can be extremely effective if done right. Duel wielding this weapon is also effective for close range combat.

Plasma Pistol: This is a good gun because it has the ability of disrupting shields in one overcharged shot. Making an enemy extremely vulnerable to attacks. I tend to pair this gun with a Battle Rifle, or the Carbine. It can also be effective with those quick melee kills.

Needler: This gun, in my opinion, is the most useless gun in the game. It is hard to get a kill with it, even with the most skilled players. I tend to stay away from this gun.

Beam Rifle: The Covenant (alien) sniper is just as effective as its human counterpart. However it differs because it doesn’t need to be reloaded. If you shoot to fast, the gun will over heat. One thing I do recommend when using this gun is to take your time shooting. Because if you fire to fast, you have to wait a little bit for your gun to cool down, making you more vulnerable against enemies.

    Vehicles:

    Human:

Warthog: the warthog has to version. One with a Gauss’ cannon, the other with a chain gun. Both are effective against infantry but the Gauss is better to use against vehicles. The warthog also makes great transportation in objective based games.

Scorpion Tank: A heavy armored, slow moving vehicle meant to provide support to teammates. It propels an explosive shell at an enemy target, causing great damage.

    Covenant Vehicles:

Banshee: An airborne vehicle that has good cover fire, and is very agile. However it is extremely vulnerable to rocket fire. Unfortunately, it is not a vehicle meant to transport infantry.

Spectre: The Spectre is very similar to the Warthog. It can transport up to 4 players and is equipped with a plasma turret on the rear. It also has a boost capability for fast getaways.

Ghost: The ghost is extremely fast and agile. It hovers across the ground with great speed. And the plasma fire can do heavy damage on infantry. However, it also leave you open to enemy fire due to the fact that you are exposed.

Wraith: The Covenant tank is a heavy hitter. It launches plasma balls at an arc at the enemy. Does a great deal of damage and has a boost capability. The only effective ways of beating someone in the wraith is to board it, or use a rocket launcher.

    HALO 2 Strategy Guide

    Basic Strategy

Slayer- Always go for the weapons you are good with, whether is it dual wielding your favorite combo, or getting power weapons. One of my favorite things to do is get the Battle Rifle or the Sniper Rifle and head towards high ground. Of course this all depends on the map and the type of game you play. You have to work on getting the upper hand on the enemy, even if it means running away.

Another thing I like to do is aim for the head. If you watch me play and look at the ending stats, I almost always have the most head shots. Another thing is high accuracy, don’t pressure yourself to much. If your just starting out, try not to waste shots and go for the head all the time. Work on hitting your enemy as much as possible.

Oddball- Can’t say I’m the best at this, but what I see that works the best is go for the ball and kill anybody around it. If you kill everybody around it, you have a few extra seconds holding the ball. In a team game, what I like to do is have the worst player on your team pick up the ball and send the other guys out to kill them. what I like to do is find a spot to hide and have your team mates have a defense system right out side the spot your hiding. It seems to work well.

Territories- Find a territory and defend it with your life. I win most of the territory games I play because we get our territory and defend it. You can go out and try to get another territory but you have to keep in mind what you have. It is also better if you know where all the territories are at in each level. Knowing this will give you the upper hand in a match.

CTF- You have to split your teammates up. The trick is to separate yourselves and figure out who does what. Have one person snipe, have two people infiltrate, etc. You always want to have at least one person at the base at all times. Everybody needs to communicate and tell everyone where the enemy is. If all goes well, and everybody has good communication, it’s hard to lose.

Basic Team strategy- Always communicate to your teammates. Give them a heads up. A team working together will almost always defeat an oppent made up of several individuals doing there own thing. Operate in pairs. Get a partner and stick to them like glue, if one dies, regroup. When people know who you are working with and who they are supporting, they know who to listen to and who to talk to. There is much less confusion and the two man squad becomes a killing machine greater then the sum of its parts. Don’t group to close together as you are rocket fodder. Remember what color you are and where your base is.

Supporting your teammates- Talk to them, cover them, watch there backs, and don’t throw grenades at them, shoot whoever is shooting them. One good team strategy is to have one guy snipe whie the other goes on shot trooper duty. Players from opposing teams will see the first guy and shoot him, ignoring the sniper. If your defending someone, use your body as a shield to take incoming fire. Give him room to move. Defend the door to the room or even the hallways outside. Not the region beside him. That way, not only are you less vulnerable to a single rocket or a grenade, but he also gets advanced warning if you die.

Pointers- Always be on the move. You never want to stand still. Strafing is your best friend in a fire fight because it makes you harder to hit. Don’t be afraid to die, always be aggressive, but you still have to be careful.

Very nice video game guide for Halo 2! I thought you did a great job of accurately describing alot of elements in the game and liked the way you organized the information and hints.

You need to do something similar for Halo 3 now!
