Are gamers another category of the human race?

Gamers categorize other gamers by what they play whether it be FPS (First Person Shooter), RPG (Role-Playing Game), Strategy Games, etc. but are we our own group of humans as it is, and divided into a mass of subgroups.

Just think about us for a minute. Many gamers are wide awake at night or in the early morning when most of the human race is sleeping. Gamers know what to look for in a game that can set it apart from many others that to the Non-Gamer eye looks or plays no differently. We have LAN parties, that to non-gamers would seem ridiculously boring, but to us it's one of the greatest times you can have.

Now I'm not saying Gamers don'y enjoy doing stuff that the Non-gamers don't like seeing movies or playing a musical instrument but we have something more. We have a sort of 6th sense, now without being to cliche let me explain myself. Gamers can feel the realism in games and appreciate the time it took to make the game that their playing. It's not like you can go play Oblivion and not notice the amazing graphics the game offers, sure everyone would notice these, but not everyone would notice the smooth transitions of these graphics moving around them to form the environment they're playing in.

This could be nonsense, but the more you think about it the more it seems to be true. Think back to when you first started playing games, did you notice everything as you do now? Before you started gaming did you stay up till 5 a.m.? Just ask yourselves some questions of what has changed since you first started gaming and how you game now. Maybe you can add more to this idea or offer a counter argument towards it. Anywho lets hear what you have to say.

I totally agree with this article, it's so true. And I'm going to have to disagree mildy with MaTrix down there, while it may be true that two strangers can meet, talk about games and be friends instantly, but from my experience, when you meet a "gamer" who only plays FPS, they seem closed off from any other of the games and are disinterested if you don't play FPS (like me)

I totally believe we are separate from other people. Two complete strangers that happen to be gamers can meet, start talking about games and by the time they part ways they are best friends. To me our group is more accepting than others out there. It doesn't matter if your specialty is FPS, RTS, MMORP, TPS or Fighting games. If you love anyone of those and if that is what you try to make time for...you're a gamer.
