  1. Im Marksman Xbox 360 Problems

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 31 2010

Hey everyone, I have a little story for you all, that I believe you'll enjoy. I want to start off by giving a little background information about my Xbox 360.

I've had my Xbox for a little over a year now, and the manufactured date is March 8th of 2008, so the warranty is not available anymore. My Xbox had been having disc drive issues where it would not read disc's I was putting into it. Plain and simple case was that the disc drive wasn't spinning the discs, I could tell it was the problem because I would hear it start to spin and then it would sputter out. Well, at the time my only solution was to tap on the top of the Xbox to see if I can try to jump start it a little bit. Most people that know me in real life know that a tap can be a little under played, because it could probably be considered a punch/smack.

Anyway, I would do this and eventually the Xbox would start to work again. This went on for about 4-6 months. Over time it gradually got worse, and a week ago it would not read any disc no matter what I would do. So after an hour and a half of messing with it and having no luck, I was to ticked off that I had a decision to make. I can A: attempt to fix the Xbox by taking it apart and playing with it, but I could also easily break it completely this way. Or I could B: Record myself hitting it in the driveway with a sledgehammer and put it on YouTube.

Well I went with the simpler solution at the time which was attempting to fix it. I was so mad that it was a 60/40 decision to try and fix it.

I would like to note that I didn't use any help from the Internet to try and fix the Xbox. I'd also like to note that an Xbox doesn't use a singe screw until you have to unscrew the top plastic piece from the chassis of the console. After 2 hours I managed to get the outer plastic shell off and get to the disc drive. The disc drive is a separate entity in itself and is it's own piece of equipment. So when i was finally able to get to it I had to take the disc drive out and open it up and then I would be able to see what was wrong. I did all this and opened it up to see the culprit of my problems. I bunch of hair had accumulated itself in the disc drive, the hair most likely being from my dog that loves to shed a lot. I blew air into it and cleaned the hair off and another hour later it was all put back together and working perfect again.

The moral of this story is to keep any pets with fur very far away from your Xbox or any other console that you wish to keep working.

P.S - I did test my console before putting it completely back together, duh. Wink

With my 360 going through some hard time, I have to admit that I'm jealous about your successful fix.

It was fun to hear you comments as you attacked this challenge and by the sounds of this Chronicle, you've had a success! Nice work and although you posted a cool photo, I'd love to see more.

You should have made a video too, haha...now fix mine!

I most likely would have gone with the sledgehammer approach but when I would send it into Microsoft they would probably tell me that the system had been "tampered" with, why on earth would they say that? Wink
