  1. Silent Bob We met Metallica!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 26 2008

Yep, you read that right. Those of you who participated in our special Guitar Hero Metallica "Preview" Tournament knew they were playing at Wells Fargo Arena tonight, because part of the 1st prize package for Expert Division was a pair of tickets to the show. Dynafire, too bad you couldn't go, but I'm sure AWolter had an AWESOME time.

Anyway, Boobacca (the lucky devil) scored a pair of backstage passes for a Metallica Meet & Greet before the show Sunday night. Knowing how much my son and I both enjoy their music (I've been listening to 'em since 1984 - wowzers I'm old!), Boo graciously decided to give us his passes.

When I called Brandon (my son, aka BMan703 aka RestlessPwner) with the news, he was ecstatic, running all around the house with the cordless phone shouting "Awesome!" over and over.

He had a hard time sleeping the last couple nights anticipating the big day.

We did prep ourselves a bit by playing some Death Magnetic tunes on the new Guitar Hero : World Tour. RyuBlitz forgot his jacket at the game center during the tournament the day before, so he caught us jamming to a couple Metallica tunes when the shop opened around noon or so. I don't know if it's just me, but the note charts seem HARDER on World Tour than they did on GHIII if you can believe it.

When we arrived at Wells Fargo, we were greeted by a couple of the dudes from Lazer 103.3 (where Boo won the passes). There were also a bunch of Metallica Fan Club members who came from literally all over the globe (mostly from Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois, but there was a die-hard female fan who winged in from Japan - I know she was die-hard because James Hetfield called her by name when he saw her and said, "Nice to see you again." Wowzers! Shocked ).

Anyway, we all were led into the bowels of the WFA, where we waited patiently to meet the band. Contrary to my initial vision, they trotted out the band members one at a time instead of all together. It actually worked out a little better that way.

Each band member, starting with Robert Trujillo (bass) and progressing to James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett, all came out and talked to each person for a little bit, signed a couple items per person and posed for photos.

Trujillo and Hetfield are total hams. They were laughing and joking around with everybody until it came time to snap a photo, and then they usually put on their "metal face" to mug for the camera.

Brandon liked Lars and Kirk a lot. He got a compliment on his "cool" shirt from Kirk. Brandon whispered before he got to us that he looked like "the dude in Airheads with the Uzi." I did a double-take, and from a distance there was a little wild-haired Steve Buscemi look to him. Shhh...just don't tell him!

Anyway, we walked out with four Guitar Hero XPlorer controllers signed by all four members of Metallica! How freaking cool is that?

One is DEFINITELY going up in Cyber Ops. One was personalized to Brandon by James Hetfield, so that one's definitely going up in his room. One was promised to my middle nephew, so that leaves one to possibly use as a prize in a future tournament!

You know I'd do anything for you and Brandon. Glad you enjoyed it! Now if I can keep "the Mitch" from bugging you for one of those guitars every 2 minutes tomorrow, I'll have accomplished something!

Now maybe if you can return the favor when Harry Connick Jr comes to town... Wink
