  1. JackDaniels624 A minature (that isn't minature) review...plus a special treat!!!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jan 14 2009

So my friend was all like "Hey Dave you wanna go to Walmart" and I was like "Sure Dave!"...Yeah were both named Dave...Anyway so we went to Walmart cuz he just bought a Blu-Ray DVD player (which is funny cuz I got one first and I don't even give a crap about Blu-Ray Laughing )...Long strory short we ended up going to Best Buy as well (where I got a Blue Tooth for Metal Gear Solid 4), then off to circuit city. While I was there I was all like "Woah! I should get another PS3 game or something". Lets just say I ended up buying more then one game which I will finally give a first impressions review of now...About time eh? After shoveling through all this crap? Okay seriously I will start a new paragraph now...after I get some food...

    1. The first game I grabbed was Castelvania: Order of Ecclesia for the DS. Man is this game awesome! I've always loved these games since I was a kid (when I could only defeat the first boss who was a bat...Never could beat the second level til I got older). I seem to remember the reviews for the game not being quite as high as usual, since IIRC they said it was far too similar to the past DS game or something. Luckily for me I never played it so everythings new to me! I love how you get two different weapons, and how some are more effective against some monsters then others! The graphics are classic, and what can I say it's awesome! The thing that wierded me out was the cats...I collected a cat and now he's in the shop for some reason, but the white cat is, well, I dunno...I read cats are used for selling stuff online or something in the instructions today, but I've never taken my DS online and I don't plan on it anytime soon. Currently I'm failing time and again (mainly for stupid reasons) against a boss which I believe is a crap-spider Laughing . If your a fan of the series you'll probobly love it to, I give it a 9.2 so far!!!

2.Trauma Center 2 for the DS. The first game was one of my favorite DS games ever so I knew I had to pick this up (decent price for both games too!). The second one begins in a African-like country...What I'm trying to say (since I really don't know the exact definition of psuedo) is that it's a country where theres a group of rebels waging war on the government, even using child soldiers to fight there battles (such a terrible tradgedy messing those kids up...I hope the PMC's over their eventually help them put a stop to that). And of course landmines (effective, but deadly even after wars unfortunately...Didn't they also put teddy bears and dolls on the mines to lure children...sick sobs...I'll try to stop putting my extra input it now). Anyway so you still play as Derek Stiles (get it like the stylus) and some of the past characters who slip my memory right now make a comeback. Derek was sent to this country along with the nurse to research some sort of new disease, but is later called back to the States when people who were infected with the virus "G.U.I.L.T." made by a terrorist organization, start showing symptoms of a new virus called "Post Guilt Syndrome" or P.G.S. However during the stay in...that Africa place, You meet Dr. Adel Tulba, who just became a doctor and helped Dr. Stiles treat patients. Which were alot but you only actually do a few surgeries. He (Well, I honestly thought he was a woman at first) had one of those cheesy predictable misdiagnosed patients, and learned from the mistake. Eventually Dr. Stiles invites him to the states to become his apprentice and he obviously accepts. The surgeries are still pretty fun, and the few actual voice acting lines are short and sometimes seemingly misplaced (always good for laughs). Everything seems pretty similar but it's still very fun. I'm currently trying to get past my first surgery on the PGS so I'm not too far, but I sure hope I get to defuse a bomb again! I give it an 8.5 so far!

    3. Resistance for the PS3. I've heard nothing but good things about this game, but I was always iffy about it, but I decided since it was the same price as the DS games to pick it up. The graphics are good, and the stories kind of interesting and takes place in the(I believe anyway) post WW2 early Cold War era. It took me a while to get used to the controls, and sadly I had to turn down the controller sensitivity (I've only had to do that in Mafia before, I usually have to turn it up)...Of course that really means nothing. At first I thought the Chimaira (saw them live with Dethklok and Soilent Green and they were pretty good, I loved their bit about "The Happening"! Saved me a movie ticket, sadly I still saw the movie, but that's for a different chronicle...Wow I get sidetracked lol). So at first I thought the Chimaira were gonna be...how do you say, mostrous? What I mean is I prefer killing humanoids in shooters, I didn't expect them to be humanoid. But they are humanoid like Gears of War so that was a huge plus! After a while of playing through the game I thought to myself "Ehh, if this game had a cover system, or regenerating health it'd be a lot funner. Well, it turns out that you soon get regenerating health, so that again was a huge plus! I really haven't played this game that much, but the graphics are good, the enemies are fun, I like the grenades (after I got used to them...which was a while) and the Chimairan assault rifle has a cool little bit to it. You can tag an enemy and then the bullets will home in on them, which allows you to shoot from behind cover! The only bad part is that I still find Gears Of War 2 to be funner, and it just doesn't live up to other shooters...That doesn't make it bad though. I give the game an 8 out of 10!

BONUS! There was another thing I bought...My first ever Arch Enemy CD. I always like getting a new CD to spin in my car on the way to and from work, and believe me this was no disappointmen! I wish I knew what it's called but I don't. First of all I must say that when I shop for cds, if it isn't in a music store I usually don't find crap I like. I'm not in to mainstream stuff really, and thats mostly all Best Buy, Walmart, and Target sell. But I found Arch Enemy (which I've seen many music videos, and listened to many songs before) and I was like "YES! FINALLY SOME MORE MUSIC!" The Three Inches of Blood was still good, but I wanted more growls and less high-pitched Rob Halford like shrieks. What originally got my attention towards Arch Enemy was that the singer is a woman, a german woman named Angela Gossow. But unlike some of those other female fronted metal bands, she can actually kick ass with a mic! I honestly thought it was a guy! Unfortunately some guys can't handle it, since her growls "gross them out" that they seem to forget that it's music, not modeling...If you want metal where people look attractive, go back and listen to some of that 80's glam metal. By the way she's actually quite decent for a metal chick, I've heard that from hundreds of fellow metalheads at concerts whenever Arch Enemy or Otep (I don't care for Otep by the way...Mainly cuz when I first heard them I was hoping for OPETH). But what else makes Arch Enemy interesting is the Ammott brothers, who if I remember correctly both play guitar. I believe it was Chris who got sick and tired of touring with his brother, and started to hate metal and started getting into more lyrically focused music...Such as Bob Dylan. He began teaching lessons in styles like that, but if a student asked to teach some of the Arch Enemy stuff he would. Eventually he fell back in love with metal and rejoined the band. This story touched me very deeply. Of course I summed it up way too much compared to Decibel, but I think I covered the major points. Even though he claimed he hated metal, it was still there in his heart. And he opened his mind up to more music which is always a positive (like for me go jazz and classical!). Anyway back to the CD. I haven't had a chance to really listen to it, but believe me I knew the song Revolution beforehand, and when it came on I was rokkin out in my driveway when I got home! I couldn't stop just headbanging to it until it was finally over...then I came inside and started to write this lol. Anyway the Arch Enemy CD gets a 10/10 so far! I can't wait to listen to it deeper! Also I can't wait for more diverse bands with woman showing they can kick some ass on stage too, or bands like God Forbid which have members that are black and mexican. Lets face it, I just love seeing more people getting into metal Laughing

Wow, this is quite the friend, retail store, video game, and music review here! haha

The only game you've mentioned here, that I've played, is Resistance 1 for the PS3, which I thought kind of sucked. I have heard Resistance 2 is cool though, so if you like the first version, I bet you'll enjoy the second too Very Happy
