Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 07 2009

Now, this chronicle is based on real events (not like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre which is so very loosely based...in fact theirs only like what? 2 or 3 similarites?) from a topic called "10 Things That Are Killing The Video Game Industry" and I decided to put my spin on it! Enjoy!!!

    1. Movie Soundtracks
Okay so they use a tiny bit of a song, and then slappem on a cd and sell it to the consumer...Well if your like me you had to grow up listening to James Bond soundtracks and realised the songs only belong in the freakin' movie! And the songs they bought rights to are usually generic songs you can hear for free over and over on the radio, or are already stuck in your head since you've heard them in popular culture since you were 5! I'm looking at you "Celebrate"...Good times? COME ON STOP PLAYING THAT SONG ALREADY!

    2.Low Budget CD's
Okay so a band you saw live is coming out with a CD. They were amazing live and their songs were totally awesome! But then you get the CD and it's mixed so terribly that the bass is the loudest instrument, and the vocals differ in volume every 5 seconds, all you can hear on the drums is the hi-hat over and over. and to top it all off theirs an annoying buzz throughout the entire thing! Seriously? Did you not hire a sound crew to fix all that?

    3.Song Whoring
What exactly does this mean? It means I don't wanna hear anymore freaking covers of Knocking on Heavens Door! It almost seems like every band HAS to make a cover of this in order to be cool or something! Write you own stuff, and quit trying to use other peoples work to make a name for yourself!

    4. Repetitive Song Concepts
Okay, we all know the feeling of getting jipped when listening to bands and find that every song sounds alike, despite how cool it was originally. I'm looking at you Job For A Cowboy! They were amazing to see live, until after the 4-5 song where I went, okay we have 3 more bands left let's hear one of them now!!! Of course talking outside in line I was aware they were awesome live for a bit, but the songs got stale by some people who listen to them more then I did (I had only heard one song of theirs before that time). And also whats up with all these concept albums these days? STOP IT! Not to mention punk music and it's repeditive chord strumming! MOVE YOUR FINGERS!

    5. Parental Warnings
That dreaded sticker on the front of the CD case has apparently made some cleaner bands censor their songs so that kids parents will allow them to listen to it. I can't think of many examples, but I guess Theory of a Deadman censored a word on one of their albums for that reason. Stupid if you ask me!

    6. Music Interaction Games
Now my eyes vear towards Rock Band and Guitar Hero (not Rock Revolution since no one pays attention to that guy!) Whenever talking about music, some little jerks asks if I play any instruments. I respond "yeah, I'm a drummer" and then all i hear next in some sort of strange twisted excited voice "OMG YOU MUST BE PERFECT AT ROCK BAND! WANNA JOIN MY ROCK BAND BAND!?!?! HAHAHAHA GET IT I SAID BAND TWICE IN A ROW HAHAHAHA! " *sigh* It gets worse, whenever a song that's in RB/GH gets played on the radio someone feels that if they don't point it out the worlds gonna asplode! Man those people are annoying! I DO NOT CARE IF YOU PLAY A PLASTIC GUITAR AND GOLD STARRED GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES!!!

    7. Parents
Oh boy, those annoying parents telling you to "Turn it down Jimmy!". Well, their not exactly the problem...The problem is teenagers genetically hate their parents and feel like they have to go and make songs about it! Then when they can't do that anymore they start complaining about how people only care about money and stuff...This is how hippies were born (well, that and a mixture of LSD).

It's not over yet folks, heres how some one like Ryan would respond!

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that music is being killed, which it is not. I'll address his points individually.

    1. Movie soundtracks are not only a great way to remember a movie, but they also allow the listener to buy songs from various artists and know the songs already. Thus there is little chance for disappointment,

    2. This is almost a non-existant problem. In fact I think it IS non-existant. And the only reason it would be logical is if thats the way the band intended you to hear it, or they did the best with what they were given so they could try and make money to make a higher quality CD next time around!

    3. Well obviously the band felt a strong connection to the artist, or at least to that song. They simply wanted to give a tribute to a huge influence to them...Would you not want to do the same?

    4. That's their style, if you don't like it...Fine don't listen to it. Why should they change just because you don't like it? And why don't you really listen to the songs so you could clearly hear the difference!

    5. Well it's better then having the whole thing banned entirely isn't it? And if one little censorship bothers you that much, get a life!

    6. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are great games! They expose millions of people to music they normally wouldn't listen to. Not to mention that these plastic guitar players may just decide on picking up a real guitar after playing one of these games. Thus making the music industry bigger!

    7. No...Hippies were made by hundreds of other things. And not all kids hate their parents. They may not like them bugging them all the time, but at the end of the day they still love them. And since when were most songs about hating parents, or how the worlds too greedy? I guarentee if you turn on the radio (on a music station of course) that most songs you'll hear are about relationships!

Wow Jack, you've really outdone yourself here! The read was long, but fun and interesting at the same time. You even followed up your thoughts with possible reactions Laughing

I think music just got too repetitive for some people. I also think the Internet mostly, but video games as well, also changed the ways people enjoy music.

I'm not a huge Beck fan, but the ways he's tried to transform the way he sells his music is pretty interesting. I personally will stick to techno, The Killers, Angels and Airwaves, and The Mars Volta
