  1. JackDaniels624 How gaming shaped my life!!!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 25 2009

It still puzzles me to this day why I can remember games I used to play as a wee little lad, yet I can barely remember much else. I can even partially remember the feeling i had playing the games, yet I remember no conversations I had during them, nor my actual playing style. Maybe this is somewhat normal to an extent, but I can't recall my personality other then I liked gaming and absolutely hated music...However once I was around 12 or 13 (possibly shortly after) that all changed and I remember the way I felt about things, and how I had pretty much completely changed.

Of course that was the time I found out that Iron Maiden is totally awesome, and I guess that's all I needed to flip my mind and music actually surpassed gaming, but that's a different story all together. It was at this time when I believe I "liberated" myself and started forming opinions for my own about everything, as opposed to what I think I may have been like and just did whatever my friends liked.

Because of this change, I eventually stopped liking a lot of the people I went to school with who were obsessed with World of Warcraft. I really couldn't get into it very much and got tired of hearing about it all day every day, then getting crap for only playing it like 2-3 hours a week. And none of those friends were into any of the games I was into. So I kinda just said FU to them before I got transferred to a different school (not litterally I just tended to avoid them whenever I could), and found more friends with similar interests and stuck by my friends who didn't talk about the game all day.

Looking back at this, I believe it was my "alternative" preference for popular games my friends didn't like (Primarily Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City), but mainly more underground games that never took too far off the ground (like the Hitman Franchise, The Warriors, and Red Dead Revolver which are some of my favorites) along with my heavier music choices has made me into the "To each his own" lifestyle. Of course there were some other things, but I'm sure those were the two easiest to understand.

These memories help time pass by at work, and have been like a flashlight so bright it could look into my soul. Not to mention a much broader sense of humor and positive outlook on just about everything!

So I thank you videogames for giving me the ability to shrug off peoples forceful opinions and encouraging me to stand up for things that most people (including myself) don't like for the people who do like it! Again, I encourage everyone in a non forceful way to follow "To each his own".
