  1. JackDaniels624 My review of RyuBlitz's suggestions for Metallica songs!!!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Apr 03 2009

First of all I'd like us all to give a round of applause to RyuBlitz for suggesting these songs! Hey you in the back! I don't see your hands moving! That's better! Alright, again thank you Ryu. Okay so heres the background story, I wrote a chronicle a day or so ago explaining why I as a metalhead, never really got into Metallica. I asked for some suggestions of songs I should listen to, and I did. And now I'm going to review them! Enjoy!

One side note, I did already write this once and it took me around two hours, was automatically logged off some time during it, and now I'm redoing it, so I don't know if it's gonna seem a bit rushed, or quite possibly better. I'll do my best despite. So here we GOO!!!

Orion-I tend to be more of an instrumental person, and this song was an instrumental. It fit the formula of starting slow and picked up a bit when the drums came in followed by the heavy guitar riff. Then about midway, it sorta seemed to stop for a tiny bit and start up again. At around 8 minutes long, it made it kinda feel like 2 songs, but that should go away after a few more times of listening to it. While the instruments weren't the most technical I've ever heard, there was a cool guitar solo in the second part! It was a bit slower for my taste of instrumentals, but it was still a good song and will listen to it again sometime! 7/10!

Motorbreath-Right away it starts off with a nice drum solo followed by some thrashy gee-tar, all at a very fast tempo! Right away the blood starts to run! I love the thrash elements in this song! Definately something to thrash to! One drawback was that it's only a bit longer then 3 minutes long, so the pit seems like it would be cut off a bit too soon. Pretty good song! 8/10!

Harvester of Sorrow-Well, I'll start off by saying that coming right out of Motorbreath, the tempo just seems to slow. There were times when I felt that Lars should have been able to nail that snare more times then he did, but it wasn't a huge deal. The solo felt a little bit too much like Sabbath (I like Black Sabbath, but there not my favorite thing to listen too). Overall I'd say this song was a bit too slow paced for me, but it was listenable. 6.7/10

The Frayed Ends Of Sanity-Oh boy, it's got that "O-E-O, O-UMM" in the beginning...I have memories of my brother doing that all the time when we were kids (I HIGHLY doubt he got it from Metallica though Laughing , that's kind of explained later). The lyrics remind me of, wait can you guess it? The song I've been trying to perfect? Yup Panic Attack. I can't help but thinking that this song had at least SOME influence on John Petrucci when he was writing Panic Attack. That's definately a positive thing here! Again, the tempo seemed a bit slow for my tastes, and nothing really stood out to me as being to special, except Ulrich did have some good fills and of course the guitar solo was pretty good. I give it a 7/10

Dyer's Eve-Here we go! Definately my favorite song suggested! I thank Ryu again for suggesting this! The tempo wasn't as fast as Motorbreath, but fast enough! Drums were awesome, guitar is totally sweet, but it's the lyrics that really hooked me! I know from firsthand that overprotective parenting is one of the worst plagues we have in our society, neigh, the world! My parents weren't the strictest, but over protective for sure! More so my mom. Luckily I was pretty young when I actually started to think for myself, but not my brother. He never does anything that would be considered "bad" like drink, smoke, swear, or insult people unless they disagree with him politically. I know that doesnt seem bad, but he really doesn't have too many friends and almost never leaves the house. All he does is watch movies, critique them, watch Fox News, work, and go to class. Although he does go and play trivia some nights...with my mom and some really old couple at his job (like 50 year olds and he's 24!) I honestly don't think that's anyway to live, he needs friends his age...One time he accused me of smoking pot (which I never have, not saying I never will, just whenever someones offered me some, I won't lie, I had already been drinking, responsibly of course...Honestly never have and never will drive drunk!) So he went and told my mom then I had to explain to her I never tried it, no you can't get arrested for a small amount (in Minnesota it's basically like paying for a parking ticket), the only reason it's illegal is because of racism and that Nixon's team of scientists said there was no reason it should be illegal, but he already waged a war on it and he didn't want to embarass himself, so he threw the report in the garbage. Almost got kicked out of the house, got tested, it was clean, rubbed it in their faces Laughing . Honestly I was almost sent to rehab for something I never did (not to mention the idea for marijuana rehab Laughing )! I can't even swear around my family, nor smoke (can't even let my neighbors find out! I don't around my dad) for that matter, despite the fact that I'm 20! Ugh, they're just so closed-minded it drives me crazy! They've both gotten better and my brother says if he ever runs into some guy he ran into at an Eric Clapton listening party again, he'd have his first beer (since his best friends finally told him they drink and their just as extremely religious as he, that he's willing to do it now). I don't know about him, I think he depends way too much on my mom. But hey, to each his own, that's just my thoughts. Now back to the song review, basically that small (HUGE actually) rant shows I obviously have a strong connection to the song! 9.5 out of 10!

Welcome Home (Sanitarium)-A slower song, but totally reminded me of Dream Theater! Everything seemed to fit the mood! I loved it! A few years ago I probobly wouldn't have been able to get into it, but I appreciate these kinds of songs more! 8.7/10!

Fight Fire With Fire-I threw up the horns to this one! Great thrash song! Everything was awesome! The only thing I would change, but don't really know how to describe it, is James' singing style...I hate the fact I don't know how or what I would change, but it just seems like it could have been better. Other then that totally awesome song! 9/10!

Alright here comes the final review! It's almost done so hang in there! Anyway here we GOOO!!!!

Creeping Death-My first thoughts were...who thought Jews would make good slaves? That was a joke, grow up! Every single race, religion, person, animal, or anything gets made fun of some time! I don't view Jewish people as being any different from anyone else. I apologize, not for if you were offended, but because you can't handle a joke. If you honestly think that nobody can make a joke that, then you have no right to make fun of anyone for ANY reason (race, religion, intelligence, silly hats, glasses, height, weight, sheer stupidity, ect.) or else you are a bigot. Speaking of bigots, I've stood up for jews, blacks, muslims, homosexuals, mexicans, immigrants, canadians, french, turks, asians, etc. to racists/bigots/actual nazis before and will 'til the day I die. I hate people who actual hate people for being different. Such hypocrites...They have a right to say what they feel, but so do I. It's our right millions of people have died for. That being said feel free to take a shot at me some time. Need ammo? Here you go, I still live at home with my mom and brother, have long hair despite being male, collect videogame action figures, I've talked to a rock for ten minutes before about where it came from, can't go to college yet, and have a crappy overnight job at Target! Fire away! I can handle it!

As you can see, this is one of the effects listening to awesome metal songs gives me. It's a feeling of power, not depression like most people seem to think. The electricity that flows through your body, makes you feel invincible, and if you go to a metal concert you can see that energy! It flows through us all! We don't try to kill eachother in mosh pits, it's the feeling of brotherhood, like knights sparring against one another. If you don't feel it maybe the music isn't for you, and that's completely fine! How does this relate to the song though? Because that's the feeling I get when I listen to it! I absolutely loved it! I don't know how else to describe it! 9/10!

And now is my fi-HEY! Wake up! All I've got left is my final thoughts! Yes you were! I heard you snoring! No you were not coughing...never mind...here we go!

Again thank you Mister Blitz! I'm glad I had this chance to do this! Those were some pretty good choices of songs! I loved the diversity! I realized I could probobly get into them. I still don't think, well I do understand the hype, but I'll never understand the HUGE hype to the point that non-metal fans praise them so much, yet won't listen to any other thrash bands (at the very least of course). I do plan on renting Guitar Hero Metallica now, not buy it, but definately rent it! I look forward to your comments Ryu, and anyone else of course!
