  1. JackDaniels624 My Personal Review of Little Big Planet!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Apr 13 2009

Yeah I know this sure is late, huh? Well I said if I ever played it, I'd review it, and I do my best to keep my word.

Before I start I should mention that the word "cute" is going to be used a lot. Now I was raised by somewhat overprotective parents at an early age so I naturally developed a minor case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD, so I generally tend to pick my words carefully. It's not because I think that if I say cute I'm going to be less of a man, it's just that I don't really find much to be "cute" anymore. Point being that when I say "cute", I genuinely mean "cute" okay? Okay let's go!!!

Alright so Little Big Planet or LBP is one of the PS3 titles that is extremely huge! And while I never quite understood the hype, it got great reviews so I figured I'd have to try it.

The first thing I noticed was that the cute little thing you play as is known as "Sackboy". You can't play as "Sackgirl" however you can dress him up like a girl, which makes him a transvestite, and there's nothing wrong with that!

The customization is excellent in this game! You can choose what color your Sackboy is, what his eyes look like, and how he dresses. I personally like my blue Sackboy dressed like a pirate with fangs, a cute mustache, and a baseball helmet! And of course there's many many other things, all cute! You can even make your Sackboy happy or sad, which again is very cute. And I love CUTE!!! You can also make his arms move separately and make him do a little dance, although occasionally he would make what looked like a strike with his hand that would make him interrupt his little dance. And yes, you can even make him look like hes...well, I won't say anymore about that but it was kind of funny!

The levels are very welled designed and have lots of neat little event triggers, like in the beginning it's showing the team and their names and running by them would light things up and such. The best part being that you too, can do anything that the team did in the level customization, so people can make some very creative levels! And who doesn't like creativity?

Some of the funner things in levels are swinging on ropes, or racing down a hill on a wooden horse! There's even a jet pack that is tied to a rope, but is very cute and pretty fun to use. Unfortunately, after a while the levels just got very boring for me and I just couldn't play anymore.

The controls work for the most part, but there were a few times when I had trouble jumping between the sceneries foreground and background.

The sound is very good, and the music fits each level perfectly, although there was a controversy (which I'm biting my tongue about) in one level where the song had to be changed, and just didn't fit as well as the one before.

Overall this game is very cute, and that's the best way to describe it! Early on I actually think I got the feeling that watching my Sackboy was somewhat like a parent watching their new born baby doing something cute (there it is again!). However, I guess I'm just not into the modern day platform puzzlers as I used to be and found myself quite bored with this game very quickly. Maybe I could have played around with the level customization, but I really don't feel like I'd want to play through any of the levels I make either, since I got sick of the ones made by the developers, despite all the neat and nifty things they added. If you love platformers and puzzle games, this is right up your alley! But for me it wasn't. I'd give the game a 6.5, in my personal opinion, but just because I don't speak my opinion of the controversy, doesn't mean I can ignore it, so I dock the score down to a 6.0.

One last side note this review was a bit rushed, but I think I mentioned all the major points, and yes the game is quite cute Wink

Ha, i don't think it would be my type of game either mate. I truly have a hatred for puzzle games. The hassle of using your mind, endlessly searching for answers and clues is such a deterrant..

And your review sounds overly negative (thus the 6.0 score). Good job, now I know to steer clear of this title.

I figured you'd have this opinion, but I didn't think you'd score it so low. Especially with how you value creativity and new ideas?

Owell, I still want to try this game and experience the "Cute" factor you speak so much about Very Happy
