  1. JackDaniels624 Symbolic (My Amazing Journey Continues...)

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jun 07 2009

As some of you may know, my views are constantly changing. I often refer to my life as "In Constant Motion" (yeah I know, I know, another Dream Theater reference, well...What can I say those guys have been quite possibly the biggest influence on my life. And you probobly didn't know that the title "Symbolic" comes from the last record that Death released due to the death of Chuck Schuldiner (r.i.p.)). Anyway this is another chapter in my book, I hope you enjoy.

Many years ago, I never did care much for RPG's and especially not Final Fantasy games...but today as I play it on my DS I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am truly enticed by the story and the gameplay is actually entertaining to me! Those many years back I would have called the combat extremely boring, and the story gimmicky and such. Not today though...Today I have changed. I understand so much more about everything, and I guess I just appreciate things more.

Not to mention if you asked me 3 months ago if I downloaded "Moving Pictures" on Rock Band I would have told you that Geddy's voice is the roadblock that keeps me from liking Rush...Yet today I find that Geddy's vocals are highly enjoyable, and fit perfectly for the band, and no he most certainly does not sound like a woman.

Then at work tonight I had plenty of time to think about every that was going wrong. Not just in the world but in my personal and family life as well. When I got home I went out for a cigarette, closed my eyes for a short moment, then opened them again.

And that's where the symbolism kicked in. When I closed my eyes, everything was dark. When I opened them I saw the sun pouring it's rays onto the green grass, and the sky painted almost completely white with a few tiny shades of blue and gray. I then thought about everything I had good going for me. And there was quite a bit that I had seemed to forgotten about. What does this mean? When you close your eyes, you see darkness (unless your thinking of something of course), yet when you open them during the day, you see light and color.

Okay in case it isn't clear enough yet, I found that humans only blink so often, which would be the bad in the world. However, most of our lives are spent with our eyes open, after all we only sleep ONE third of our life away. When I opened my eyes, I saw beauty, when I closed them, darkness...The world is a beautiful place, sometimes we just need to open our eyes in order to see that.

    Carpe Diem
