  1. JackDaniels624 My NEW thoughts on Coldplay...(READ THIS BEN!!!)

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jun 15 2009

Alright, so as many of you know, I had harsh words for Coldplay. Why? Because they blatantly stole the main guitar riff in Viva la Vidia from the genius guitar player Joe Satriani (a freakin' legend!)...But like many of my thoughts and beliefs, this one rapidly changed.

With my mind constantly in motion, thoughts always floating around, I gave Coldplay another view in which to see things. Instead of seeing them as dirty thieves winning awards for something they didn't write, why not change that into something a bit easier for both me, and the Coldplay fans?

Here's a quote from Joe himself “I’m happy for the group, and in a very weird way, I was happy to hear my melody being celebrated. However, I was slightly confused that NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.), the organisation which handles the Grammy Awards, would even consider nominating a track which they knew was heavily contested. These are the people who voted for MILLI VANILLI, though it isn’t really their job I suppose.” And I suppose that's the way I see things now.

Sure they are still thieves, but instead of hate (which I know I say hate is cool a lot, but overall the truth is hate sucks. You could say I hate hate), why not see things this way. Coldplay has admitted that they do like and respect Joe Satriani. What this means to me is that they actually look up to a man who knows about music theory. It's not like they just listen to the boring, repeditive, poorly written songs on the radio, they have a taste for actual art!

And now about the awards Coldplay won. They won quite a bit didn't they? This used to piss me off to no extent, but now I see it as a win for Joe. After all, he wrote the melody in the song, so of course it was gonna be a winner eh?

So basically, I've embraced my more natural peaceful side and realized that while they shouldn't have done it, at least the people who enjoy it can actually say they like some of Joe Satriani's work huh!

Oh and one final note. For all of those Coldplay fans who stand by them to the death and say that Joe Satriani was some no-name trying to mooch off of Coldplay...Just google his name for me would ya? Thanks, and shut up!

No, what they did was wrong, but I was getting really tired of getting pissed off whenever the song came on the radio. Plus I didn't like the image I was casting, it just sorta felt like I was trying to say I was superior to everyone else. I won't lie and say that I never feel that way, but that just isn't me, opinions are opinions and everyone has a different way they view the world. Maybe it's an apology for being such an a-hole, but I'm really not sure. Maybe I felt I just needed to move on, or possibly both. I think I just need some time to analyze it with what I know about psychology.

Oh and here's a fun fact, the song after the one playing at the time I started thinking about giving them another chance was in fact, and in all honesty, Viva la Vidia!
