  1. JackDaniels624 Tonight I was almost spit on 3 times, shot, and thanked (100th Chronicle)

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Aug 22 2009

True story! Okay this is going to be the superest bestest 100th chronny ever! It's actually gonna matter unlike BEN's 200th (I'm kidding of course).

Okay so tonight my life was completed. I GOT TO MEET DREAM THEATER! My first impression when I saw them was "HOLY ****!" The reason was because they don't seem like your average person on the street. Seriously they're like an enemy in a game who's like the other regular enemies, only you can tell their better then them because they look different. And I'm not making that up, they seriously do! Must be their height, build, and tattoos.

Anyway I really didn't get much personal time with them, but I did get my picture taken, which should be emailed to me in around a week, and as I moved up to get in the picture Mike gave a long powerful nod at me! Believe me that was amazing! (I love Portnoy...in a non-sexual way) Then we were given time to get our stuff we brought, or the poster they gave us signed. First it was John Myung, and when he finished I thanked him and guess what? He said "Thank you"! Then it was James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess, John Petrucci (I forgot to thank him, but he was talking to someone else anyway), and then finally Mike Portnoy. The other guys didn't say anything to me cuz they were all busy and I don't blame them.

Okay so then I got to my seat (VERY FRONT AND DEAD CENTER!) and watched Zappa Plays Zappa (absolutely amazing, definately check them out. The singer was very hyperactive and jumped on a lot of chairs next to us and even specifically called me and the two guys next to me ***holes being the lyrics of the song teeheehee).

Anyway so then Dream Theater came out. Adreniline rushed as they started to play "A Nightmare To Remember"! It was such a great opening. Anyway since I don't remember the songs the following highlights took place during I'll just talk about them.

James LaBrie is loud! I swear I could sometimes hear his ACOUSTIC voice! He also got pretty close to where I was standing. He wears Harley Davison boots...I read the logo. It was also somewhat uncomfortable when I was watching Mike drumming then BAM! LaBries groin a foot away from my face Laughing .

Then my personal favorite moments. I swear, and I'm not making any of this up, me and Mike locked eyes for at LEAST 10 full seconds! No blinking or anything, and yeah he was looking directly at me. When he finished he rolled a drumstick which I suspected was towards me by his reaction but it got to the person two seats away from me (by the way I watched Mike's drumming a lot and I'm pretty sure he picked up on it that's why I'm sure, plus he kind of made a look at me like "oops"). Anyway I also watched him throw a stick up in the air...and a few feet behind him Laughing . Even Mike makes mistakes. Then near the end of the show Mike looked directly at me, and shot me with his fingers and nodded after I nodded and smiled at the reaction! That my friends, was the greatest moment of my life! He also is known for spitting on stage. Petrucci has glass protecting his speakers from Mike's spit. And he's got quite a distance, I was almost spat on 3 times! It was around a foot away, only due to being angled.

And I was also very close to John's guitar solos (he uses these metal, speaker shaped things to rest his foot on during hard parts...and he uses the metal things because his new equipment doesn't need those stage speakers). He and I also made eye contact once. Oh and I didn't hear him miss a single note!

Then there's Jordan, who also made eye contact with me once Laughing . What amazed me was that he has an avatar that appears on a TV screen that shows, with pinpoint accuracy, what notes he's playing on his keyboard! It was awesome watching the little wizard playing what he was! And also his keytar or whatever it's called skills are amazing! He played it right in front of me! The most amazing thing was that he actually uses an iPhone to make music! I'm not joking! It sounds amazing too!

And Myung, who is the quiter one, is by far the most amazing bass player I've ever seen! He didn't tackle James this time, nor did he do that thing where he lowers his head and charges across the stage (wasn't big enough), but holy crap can he move his fingers fast! I watched him quite a bit as well.

Overall, it was the happiest moment of my life! I just wish DT would have played a bigger setlist, and no they didn't play my theme song, or anything off of Train of Thought (my second favorite CD of all time), but that doesn't matter. Everything they played was amazing, and the show was long, but time flew by so quickly. I suggest any fanatic to jump on a meet and greet pass anytime they get a chance, and the fans MUST see them at least once in their life, and for those who haven't heard of them. Listen to some of their stuff, if it doesn't click right away give it time (I never disliked the music, but it didn't catch on me immediately either. In fact I still have to listen to most of their songs a few times before I truly enjoy it to the fullest). They are majestic! Absolutely breath taking! I...I never thought it possible to like them any more then I did, but now...holy crap! I've never been happier in my life!

*update* possible pics coming soon. Not of the show unfortunately, but believe me I got a ton of awesome stuff!
