  1. JackDaniels624 Finally, my Beatle's Rock Band review!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Sep 16 2009

About time huh? Well let's just say I've officially become a 3x Daytripper achievement earner (thanks to Dynafire for threatening to jump ahead of me in our little achievement contest). So I figured I should just review the game already...Plus I feel like writing a chronicle or something...

Okay, first of all let's look at speculations. Difficulty is a hot topic when considering picking up this game. Everyone assumes The Beatle's played very simple music, and while I have to admit that no song in the game was impossible on any instrument (well, I can't speak for drums. Too much work hauling them around and take up too much space, and I don't like hitting something plastic and hearing a snare. Coming from a real life drummer, it just doesnt' feel right). However I'm sure most of you (myself included) would be shocked to see some of their charts! Most notable "All You Need Is Love", the end of that seems much like Through The Fire and Flames, only you know, well written. Youtube it sometime!

Other hard guitar songs I found, again not impossible to pass, I know I'm not the greatest plastic guitar player but I can beat most songs from all the other games on expert (all instruments). There were some that did stick out as being pretty hard to FC though, and I barely managed to 4 star them, and in one occasion 3 star. These include most of the Apple Corps Rooftop songs "Dig A Pony", "I've Got a Feeling", "I Me Mine", "Get Back", "Octopus's Garden", and the one I got 3 stars on..."Birthday".

Bass is where the game truly shines though. Many of the songs are actually harder on bass then lead guitar, and imo sound cooler. Paul McCartney is an absolutely amazing bassist, and quite unique for that era! I now cite him as a personal favorite and one of the best bass players, along with one of my favorite musicians of all time, and being very close to the top!

Harmony vocals...These alone are worth buying the game for! All you need is one person doing vocals, and have 2 other mics, and prepare to have a blast! It's not limited to one person singing at a time, so it can almost be like a co-operative game! I remember my brother (who was designated lead singer) struggling at times and me finishing lines to save our combo. It just has some sort of magical feeling having more then one singer in a room when those harmony parts come up, it truly does bring you closer together. I challenge you not to smile after you all sing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With a Little Help From My Friends together!

The cinematics and graphics are absolutely breathtaking! They replicate the band so well, the animations are smooth, and when they play in the studio the background turns into a scenery that matches the song, fitting perfectly of course! Very imaginative, very beautiful!

The setlist is great! Even if your not a Beatle's fan, they are so diverse I know you'll find SOMETHING to like, if your like me you'll find yourself re-enjoying all the overplayed songs, along with loving all the ones that made you love them in the first place! Of course the setlist is limited to what? 45-50 songs? Well, obviously some major songs got cut (Hey Jude and Help were the most notable for me), of course these will be released as DLC down the road. I know it may seem like a jip or whatever, but considering the setlist they have now, and including a lot of mainstream songs and some lesser known ones, their had to be sacrifices...even if those 2 seem basically essential to the game.

The achievements range from cool, to awesome, to hard, to easy, but all seem fun. Original too, like getting 85 percent of every guitar solo on expert, getting all the ho/po's without strumming, "I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!!!" (It's a joke from what Ringo said at the end of recording Helter Skelter, it's pretty cool) in which you get 100 percent on Helter Skelter's drums, and many others I could rant on about but won't.

Overall, this game is my favorite game of the year! 3 times I've beat the story mode in one night (seperate nights of course), and I still plan on playing it more! My personal favorite music game available! Unlike all the other games I didn't have to wade through a bunch of crap that bothered me so freakin' much just to play the 8 or so songs I wanted to play, or the 15-25 other songs I really enjoy. Sure not every songs good, specifically "Boys" (imo of course), but it's a nice feeling knowing that a vast majority of the songs are pure concentrated awesomeness! I give the game a 9.6 only because waiting for the DLC sucks!

I a some-what Beatles fan right noe, but i have a feeling this would sway me to all-the-way fan, if it wasn't a rock band game. Nothing specifically against rock band, but i'm already a guitar hero person and i don't see the point of going back and forth between two franchises that are essentially the same, which suck because this game looks really sweet.

    Very Happy Ninja

Wow, favorite game of the year so far?! Although the conversation will be over in the GoG Forum, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on if this game would be something to buy, even if you're not a Beatles fan? Could this game MAKE you a Beatles fan?

Either way, I enjoyed this video game review and as always, great detail and interesting insight for sure Very Happy
