  1. JackDaniels624 Have you hugged your 360 today?

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 29 2008

Maybe you should! I know I did! Why though? Because we all know that the 360 is prone to get the dreaded "RED RINGS OF DEATH!!!1". I would know, it's happened to me twice.

The first time was like an illness...it didn't happen instantly. It actually slowly died over the course of I'd say a month or a month and a half. I started to notice it when Oblivion was getting really long load times, and strange glitches. I was also playing K.O.T.O.R. 2 at the time and realized that I could only play it 25 percent of the time I wanted to, and was quite a struggle to get my 360 to start when the game was in it (start the dashboard/game I mean). I figured that it was just having problems playing Xbox games on it, so I let it go. So then on May 30, 2006, the day Hitman Bloodmoney, the game I had been dying for months to play, finally came out. I rush home to put the disc in and what do I get...the dreaded 3 rings of death. I told my mom my 360 broke and she called Microsoft while I tried did everything they said to bring life back into my best buddy, which scared me cuz it almost worked without my harddrive, and even though I wasn't quite the achievement freak I am today, I really didn't want to lose my Oblivion data! But while it did work for a while (I got to play the first mission in Hitman) when I was told to put in a different game...so I got a taste of GREATNESS and then I put in Oblivion and it didn't work. I didn't think this at the time, but now I realize this was one of the greatest things to happen to me!

I had to send in my 360 (so THANKFULLY my harddrive was safe), but what about Bloodmoney? I had to play it! So I went to Blockbuster and rushed to the Xbox section and panicked cuz Bloodmoney was all rented out. Luckily they had one for the PS2 so I could play it. It was great, I beat, my friend beat it, and then finally my 360 came back after a few weeks and I was so excited! I immediately hooked it up (not on the carpet! NEVER PUT THE 360 ON CARPETING! That's why it broke in the first place!) And when it started up I was like "Holy beautiful pixels!" THIS IS SOOO MUCH BETTER LOOKING! I know at that time people were all like “The graphics on the 360 aren’t that much better then the PS2 or Xbox”…that is such a lie!

Then the second time my 360 broke, it was sudden. I went to play Assassin’s Creed, and it just wouldn’t start at all. So I was caught off guard, but I wasn’t mad. I just calmly called Microsoft (and their support line is great!), and surprisingly the box (known as the coffin) arrived sooner then the previous time. It even came back in around 2 weeks. And the day it came back, my cousin was over and both of us were talking about Rock Band earlier that day. As soon as I got the 360 out of it’s box I hooked it upstairs and played Rock Band with my family, and it was a truly happen moment. It’s like when you get addicted to something, and don’t do it for a while, and then you finally do it again and the rush is even more extreme!

So overall, even though 360’s are prone to break down, Microsoft is getting much better at their customer service and have their warranties extended. It’s 100% free too (the first time we were charged like $140, but were completely refunded after realizing it was still under warranty). Try to appreciate the time you have with the 360, and how the games have drastically improved graphically, and gameplay wise. Go ahead, give it a nice big hug! Smile
