Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 18 2008

I have to be honest, without some of the GoG members being such fans of this company’s fantasy games, I may have skipped this company, but when I saw some of the games they were highlighting, I had to stop in and hear more.

    Infinite Undiscovery
This was said to be the companies first Xbox 360 game, and they seemed really excited about this game. It was also playable within the pavilion, but we had a chance to get more details in the Square Enix private room.

Scheduled to release September 2nd, this real-time battle game is story about a struggle for power connected to the moon. I know Kupo Cakes has already written a video game preview for this game, so you can check that out for more storyline details.

The interchangeable character function looked cool and although I’m not into these games, it did look very nice and the graphics were rich and bright. Any Final Fantasy fan will enjoy this game for sure.

    Song Summoner (ipod)
As one of the most innovative ideas at E3, this is the first RPG games that you play on your ipod! It is available for the ipod Nano, 5th Generation, and other classic ipods that have video screen functionality.

The main idea is that you use the music within your ipod library to create a fantasy character and fight against evil. You can create multiple characters and enjoy numerous battles with different songs within your collection. One of the coolest elements of this game, is how listening to certain songs on your ipod after you’ve created a character with the song, will enhance the power of that given character. This applies for all the songs/characters you establish, so you may just listen to a certain song a lot, just to power up your characters!

This concept is cool, I’ll admit, but the game play was somewhat confusing and would take some commitment to enjoy. I think games for music devices has a bright future, but I don’t think this game represents where we want to be yet. Check it out if you’re a big ipod user and enjoy fantasy games as this game is now available, otherwise wait for something more up your alley.

    Final Fantasy IV (DS)
With touch screen functionality, this game for the Nintendo DS is a remake from the original Final Fantasy IV. The development team did say they had made some enhancements, but the general game was the same.

We asked about Final Fantasy 13, but they could not disclose details at this time.

    Chrono Triggers (DS)
This Nintendo DS video game has the choice of duel or single screen functionalities. With the game being ported direct from the original, the company wanted to build off the pioneering success of the previous RPG game. With time travel and multiple ending options, this game is sure to allow for a lot of game play for those long road trips.

We did not have time to look at the last main game Square Enix was sharing, Dragon Quest IV – Chapters of the Chosen, and overall, this was my least interesting company that we spent private time with. I do understand a lot of GoG members enjoy these games, so I made the effort to get the hot news anyways. Hopefully, these above titles are what you wanted to hear about!
