Devil May Cry 4 (DMC4)...the long awaited sequel, oh wait, it's a prequel, no wait...it's a prequel to the sequel of the second game...wait...I give up. As you may have guessed from it's title, this game is the fourth in the series of Devil May Cry.

Devil May Cry 3 was an absolutely amazing game, and while I shouldn't hold any biases against one game because of another, I simply cannot ignore the fact that DMC 3 was brilliantly made and involved an intriguing story line. With that, Devil May Cry 4 follows in the footsteps and tries to bring a new combat system into the game, which it did so with great success; however, the story is lacking tremendous depth and seems like it could have been written by a fifth grade student.

In DMC 4, the hero, in this instance, Nero, is a member of a religious sect called 'The Order of the Sword.' Basically, The Order is a bunch of nut balls who follow the legends mentioned in the previous games, in the way that states: "Sparda (a full-fledged demon) fell in love with a human, and fought the forces of his brethren to stop them from invading the Earth, which eventually claimed his life." That's some religion to follow, your God is a demon. Seems like blasphemy to me...

Anyway, Nero is a human who posses demonic-like powers (in the form of his right disfigured arm) and has never known why he was tasked with carrying this oddity. Well, he finds the answer to that question later, but while traversing on his journey, he runs into the hero of the past games. That's right kids, Dante is back.

For those of you who don't know...Dante, was one of two children that Sparda produced. The other child, being his twin brother, Vergil. You're probably asking yourself, if they're twins how do they differ in power? Well Johnny, that's a very good question. Dante use a broadsword and Vergil uses a kick ass samurai-style katana which pwns n00bs. Oh, and Vergil can summon magical swords around himself to help with protection, or he can lob them at enemies. Dante on the other hand has guns...just plain old guns. Play DMC 3 if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Nero first confronts Dante in the first stage where Dante says something along the lines of "Kid, I think you're different from the rest of them, adios!" Which of course leaves Nero perplexed. So, Nero's goal is to find Dante and ask him what the hell he was talking about.

Later, Nero is granted 'True Demonic Power.' Remember that arm I mentioned? That grants him some 'demonic-like' power but not true power. If you noticed that little foible congratulations, you possess great observation skills! When he, Nero, Obtains this new power he is then able to start kicking some ass and later confronts Dante. The confrontation ends but who wins? Well, I'll leave that up to you to find out.
