  1. Seripha Grinding, Farming, and Banging My Head Against the Wall...

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 12 2009

I've finally done it. Nearly 120 logged hours has blessed me with 100 percent achievement completion on Infinite Undiscovery. Most of the achievements in this game were what I would consider medium difficulty. The last three achievements, however, caused me to slowly slip into cesspool of rage from which I have yet to recover. Nevertheless, I have risen triumphant.

The third to last major achievement that I scored was to defeat the Ethereal Queen on Infinity mode. Let me begin by saying that in order to get to Infinity mode I had to beat the game on Normal and Hard mode. This boss is the final boss of the post-game dungeon the Seraphic Gate. On Infinity mode she has 2.4 million health and spells that are capable to wiping your entire team from full health which, in my case, was 70000+ for all my party members. The entire fight I would say took between 20-30 minutes. On more than one occasion all three of my teammates had died and I was left paralyzed with 10% health mashing buttons to get them rezzed as fast as I could. Ultimately, she was bested. The final blow to her released within me a shout of joy similar to that of a junior high school girl that just won tickets to a Backstreet Boys concert. Gratifying...

The second to last achievement I nailed was by far the most time consuming and difficult. The achievement, Compulsive, was to have in your inventory at one time or another every item in the game. This totaled 881 items, a handful of which were missable during the storyline. I was able to get a hold of an interactive checklist made by other gamers in Excel. I used this to check off items as I got them. When I finally crafted the last item on the list... the achievement did not pop. You can imagine my displeasure. I spent the next day rechecking off everything I had praying I didn't miss an item that I couldn't go back and get. I eventually came across a crafted item, the Mercurius Boots. Apparently sometime during the mind numbing craftfest that was my life, I marked these off without actually having them in my inventory. I crafted them and... success.

The final achievement was not by any means difficult; just time consuming and boring. I had to max out the money counter on the game which happened to be 99,999,999. This seems daunting unless you're a genius like me Wink . There are treasure chests in the post-game dungeon that come alive and fight you. Upon defeat these chests give you a mere 30 EXP but a whopping 58,000 - 60,000 fol. On top of this, the main character has a weapon enchantment that lasts for 3 minutes and causes every kill to give you 3x the fol you would normally get. Next, I searched for a living treasure chest that was the most near to a teleporter that led to the next level of the dungeon. This way, once I killed the chest, I could run to the teleporter, port out and back in, and effectively respawn the chest to be killed again. I found an excellent spot for this where I could kill the same chest 8 times in 3 minutes which netted me approximately 1.4 million fol. Four to five hours of this process brought me the achievement along with 100 percent completion.

All that being said, I would definitely recommend this game to any RPG fan. I would NOT, however, recommend to anyone EVER attempting to 100 percent this game. My 120 hours of "logged" time is not an accurate amount for the number of hours I actually put into this game. Since crafting items can fail, I had to, hundreds of times, reload my data in order not to lose the materials that took me countless hours to farm. This also doesn't include any number of times I died and had to restart at my last saved point. All in all, though, it was worth, for me anyway; one of undying fortitude and resolveā€¦ topped off with utter insanity.

Now that I have discussed the game that destroyed my life over the last few weeks... Star Ocean 4 anyone!?

    Cheers,
    Seripha

Wow, this commitment falls into the same category as Dynafire's Fallout 3 epic adventures! This amount of dedication must be recognized and I for one...salute you!

I'd say you should ease up for your next game and enjoy a game like Minesweeper to ease your gaming stress level, lol.

Congrats on getting full gamerscore on that beast! That sucker's worth a ton on TrueAchievements. Wink

I've been thinking about getting the game for a while, and these seem like the kind of achievements I wouldn't mind grinding. Perhaps when the game hits $30 I'll pick it up.
