  1. TGS2008 My TGS Experience, Part I

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 29 2008

I really am sorry for the delay in writing, everybody... just had so much to do when I got back, and getting sick, and going to work... none of that helped. Sad

I honestly don't know where else to start... so why not the front door?

When I walked with the line to the very entrance, a big wire "Tokyo Game Show" arch was set up, and immediately (and when I say that, I mean IMMEDIATELY) every person coming through was assaulted by the gigantic screen that was the Koei booth. They were playing trailers for their upcoming titles on it, surrounded by a big LED-infused backdrop that had characters and logos passing back and forth across it (the picture I posted really doesn't do it justice... the sound was booming from some hidden woofers, and GOD was it loud!). I sat for a moment and caught the MultiRaid trailer (which has been added to this profile), and from there I was off to see just what was bouncing the show floor!

This was my first time coming to such a huge show, and to be honest I didn't know just what to go about doing to get everything... so I mostly did the wandering, "try-to-catch-a-little-of-everything" approach. First after the Koei show was immediately to my left... and what's probably the most kickass thing personally that I found: King of Fighters XII. They weren't hosting a demo of it (the only games at their booth with older KoF games, sadly), but the images they were showing were what was to be expected... new animations, a fight between Iori and Kyo, a new environment or two. I doubt it's very far along, not just from the trailer but from the small amount of serious "content" from it.

From there it was around the corner to Sega, which was... fairly disappointing, really. They had a myriad of titles set up, but overall it wasn't anything that blew my socks off. My cousin, who came with me on the trip, got pretty excited over a DS version of Phantasy Star Online, but alas, it wasn't playable at all. Phantasy Star Portable was, but that had already been released. A couple of glances toward the Sonic Unleashed kiosks (in Japan called Sonic World Adventure), and we headed out of there.

I'm sorry, but for now that will have to do... I have work in the morning, and I really wanted to get something with substance down for you guys! To be sure, more WILL come later... and sooner, I promise!

There was actually a pretty fair amount of both released and unreleased games. Some of the titles (like the ones promoted as WiiWare or XBLA) I wouldn't know for sure, since they would've shown up on the Japanese consoles and rarely on the North American... but for the most part, there was a significant balance. Guess that comes with the fact it was completely open to the public.

Looking forward to Round 2, but one question I have from this Chronicle is...Where the games being presented at this event, titles that have already been released or mostly "coming soon" type of games? I assume it was a mixture of both, but what was the ratio you might guess?

Anyways, sounds (and looks) like quite the experience. Did the location change the event for your personally? I know if I was to attend an event where very few people probably spoke English, it would be a much different experience than say E3 in the states.
