Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 22 2008

Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party is the third entry in Ubisoft's party-game franchise (a spin-off of the classic platformer Rayman). With the Rabbids taking over the television airwaves, you play about 60 minigames using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Additionally, roughly one-third of the games can be played with the Wii Balance Board (sold separately).

I tried two of the dancing mini games in TV Party. The first had me dancing along to "ABC" and "Soul Bossa Nova" (The theme to Austin Powers). As the song plays out, stick figures holding specific poses appear at the top of the screen, and you must mimic such movements as waving your hands in the air and zipping your finger from your waist to the sky (the "Travolta," if you will).

I then put down my laptopsand sat atop the Balance Board. Games like "Beestie Boarding" had me steering a large beast down a mountain with my bum, hitting slalom gates and ramps for zany air time. Once in the air, you can swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in the directions indicated on the screen to perform various tricks. Actually steering the beast on the slope is pretty tough, as I quickly swing wildly from wall to fans during futile attempts to slide through gates. While only one player can use the Balance Board to play such games, others can attempt to sabotage the player by throwing snowballs at specified moments. It's a shame you can't rock four Balance Boards, though.

Aside from the introduction of Balance Board support, Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party isn't a wild swing away from what has worked before for the franchise. But the TV theme offers a lot of opportunities for great spoofs and enjoyable experiences.

Total humiliation of "steering with your bum" keeps us from getting this for the game center.

I think it'd be a hoot to see it in action, but I don't think I'd have a lot of takers.
