1. How to choose the Music Game for YOU! (Review)

   Quick note to the Fans: Text in this article will be changing colors depending upon consoles. Any Black Text will refer to every game, system, and person.
   
   This Article is going to read like one of those "Choose your own adventure" novels- so try to follow along if you would.
   
   After working in my local video gaming distributor for nearly two years, I have decided to - once and for all - answer one of the most popular questions that I am asked on a day to day basis. No, I am not going to hold you a Nintendo Wii, No, I am not going to tell you where to actually find Wii Fit, nor am I going to give you the Console rundown in an attempt to convince you to drop the PS3 idea once and for all. In fact, I am here to help you decide which music game is the best suited for you and your family to play. The age old question: Guitar Hero or Rock Band!
   
   The First question is this: Which of the following musical genre(s) do you prefer more?
   A) Alternative-Punk Rock-Grunge
   B) Rock-Alternative Rock-NuMetal
   
   Second question: Being the Plastic Rockstar you are, Do you have any plastic instuments already?
   A) Yes I Have The full Guitar hero band kit (2 Guitars, Mic, Drums)
   B) Yes I Have The full Rock Band band kit (2 Guitars, Mic, Drums)
   C) I am missing one or all of these: Drums, Mic, or Bass Guitar for Guitar Hero
   D) I am missing one or all of these: Drums, Mic, or Bass Guitar for Rock Band
   E) I have nothing, I am just starting out.
   
   The Last question is this: Which Console are you planning to play the game on?
   For Xbox 360 or PS3: Read the Blue Text
   For Wii: Read the Red Text
   For PS2: Read the Green Text

   Being the 360 or PS3 owner you are your console is completely cross-compatible with all instruments.
   If you answered A or B- Skip ahead to Step 4.
   If you answered C or D- You may also Skip ahead to Step 4, but keep in mind- You may be looking for a Band Kit after the reading of this article.

   Being the Wii owner you are your console is NOT cross-compatible with all instruments between games. This means that your Rock Band Drums and Mic will not work with Guitar Hero and vice-versa. The Guitars are compatible, however.
   If you answered A or B- Skip ahead to Step 4.
   If you answered C or D- You may also Skip ahead to Step 4, but keep in mind- You may be looking for a Band Kit after the reading of this article.
   Now, Letter E people, Move to the next step (3).

   Being the PS2 owner you are your console is NOT cross-compatible with any instrument between games. This means that no Rock Band instrument will work with Guitar Hero games and vice-versa. However, in some rare cases, The Wired Guitar Hero Guitars have been known to work with Rock Band.
   If you answered A or B- Skip ahead to Step 4.
   If you answered C or D- You may also Skip ahead to Step 4, but keep in mind- You may be looking for a Band Kit after the reading of this article.
   Now, Letter E people, Move to the next step (3).

   Starting out is tough, And this article is truly written for all of you folks
   Stick it out, And leave Educated and ready to invest
   Step 4
   Now to chose the game side. If you chose to answer question 1, Please look at your results from optional Step 1 to use as a guide.
   
   Rock Band
   
   Sure, there are not as many games to choose from here, there are still enough songs (about 80 per disc *Excluding AC/DC* *including Downloadable Content*) to be a worthy competitor.

   Unproven Facts:
   1) While some people do like the new guitar hero drum sets, a fair majority of people prefer the Rock Band Drums over the Guitar Hero ones.
   2) There are not as many, if any small bugs scattered throughout the game.
   3) Easier menus to navigate and nearly impossible to not find someone to play via XBOX LIVE or PSN.
   4) Easier to calibrate for HDTV's
   
   Guitar Hero
   
   If you want variety: Guitar Hero is for you. With SEVEN Console* Releases - and at least one more confirmed, there is one for anyone!
   *also 2 releases on Nintendo DS
   On the main games, there is anywhere from 40 to 90 songs to choose from. (including Downloadable songs)

   Unproven Facts:
   1) The Hammer-ons and Pull-Offs are a lot smoother and tend to have greater accuracy.
   2) Online Content Loads extremely fast, and can connect to people in a matter of seconds.
   3) Any damaged Instruments are replaced for free (unless it was self-induced) and in only a matter of no more than 2 weeks.
   4) Greater range of musical genres and eras.

   1. The hammer-ons and pull-offs seem smoother in Guitar Hero because the timing window in which to hit them is much wider. It's not the game engine that makes them smooth, it's your ability to play on rhythm. Guitar Hero just allows you to be a bit faster or slower than Rock Band and still hit the notes.
   
   2. The Rock Band guitars are not compatible with Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III, or Guitar Hero Aerosmith on any platform.
   
   3. With Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica, it is impossible to do band quickplay with less than 3 people. This means that if you and a friend want to rock out online together, you must search for other players to make a full band. At least, this is necessary if you or they are playing drums or vocals. If you're both on guitar, you can just play co-op. You can do band quickplay with 2-4 people locally, but online, you have to have a full band. Rock Band doesn't make you do this. Hell, you can do band quickplay by yourself if you really want to. Just something to think about if you're wanting to do that.
   
   4. The Les Paul guitar on the PS3 has an unfixable lag issue. GH World Tour guitars don't have this problem, however.

   I fell into a pit and died.
   
   But seriously, this is a fairly good guide. There are however, a few things that should be noted.
