  1. MLG Meadowlands PACHA – Where Techno Lives

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Apr 21 2009

Picture this if you would. You woke up over 21 hours ago, have flown to NYC, enjoyed an exciting afternoon at MLG, and now it is approaching 1:00am and you’re about to arrive at one of the most famous clubs in New York, the Pacha, to see techno legend David Guetta.

Well this is what I was about to embark on, so this Chronicle, as little as it has to do with gaming, is about the all-night event we experienced at place where I feel techno could call home.

Okay, so this event started at 10pm and was scheduled to rock until 8am. Oddly enough, we were over 3 hours late but arrived only a single song before the main DJ, David Guetta took the tables. Even odder, was the fact that this place was ACROSS the street from where we hosted the Massive Inc. Guitar Hero event only a few months ago! I truly could not believe that in all of New York City, this place was on the same block as where I had experienced one of the best GoG events to date Shocked

So as we walk in, the techno hit us immediately, as I anticipated what this place would be like. We stopped at the bar and I bought Natas (the KSI CEO) and I, a round of fine vodka, which was over $25/drink, haha. This turned out to be the only drink I had all night and in the following paragraphs, you’ll hear why.

Before long, I had decided that this night was going to be special, even if I had to spend it alone. I broke away from our group that was hanging out on one of the upper levels (overlooking the area and DJ station) and made me way to the stairs that lead into the main pit. This was right as David took over and I ended up getting stuck on the stairs as you could not move without getting semi violent.

Eventually I made way down the stairs and decided to push (literally) towards the back center of the room so I could take this experience all in. The view of the entire pit was magnificent, but soon after dancing in that area, it was time to see what the front was all about.

I admit it was not easy pushing and weaving my way to the front, but once I was there, I spend most of the evening enjoying the sound blasting into my brains, lol. I think the photos that I got (and posted) makes it seem like the place was not large because many of them were taken so close to the DJ stage, but in reality, we were talking to a bouncer as we left and the capacity for this place was around 5,000 dancing fools!

[Don't forget to check out the videos on this MLG Meadowlands profile to get a better sense of this place!]

I located Natas and he and I enjoyed the front’s pandemonium for awhile, before my body final started to shut down around 5:00am. He and I could not find the rest of our group, so decided to walk into Times Square.

This was the second time I had been in Times Square at such a late and oddly creepy hour. I must say that being in one of the busiest places on earth and only having a few people around is pretty neat. It’s night time, but the lights make it feel just as bright as if it were high noon Shocked

Eventually, we decided to grab a $50 cab ride back to New Jersey, but we were so hyped from the evening’s event, we ended up sitting back at the hotel and talking about GoG and how we could continue its development and growth. Breakfast opened at 7:00am, so we enjoyed some food with Elamnite (from the MLG pro team XiT Wounds) and then talked each other into a one hour nap before heading over to Day 2.

As a techno fanatic, this was something I will never forget and I’ll forever be a fan of David Guetta and this epic place they call PACHA NYC.

    UPDATE - April 21, 2009
It's a bit late now, but the rhythm is still beating in my blood and as you may have noticed, I've placed some videos from the actual night we were at Pacha. I've dated the videos that were taken on 4.3.09, so check those out. If you're interested in even more, YouTube is littered with personal accounts of this magical place.

Well, in my eyes techno and gaming go hand in hand! I've only heard a bit of techno, and all the times I voluntarily heard it I enjoyed it (not that crappy DJ who opened up for Paul McCartney who I got to see for free, so I can't complain too much...especially since the seats were on the floor of the Excel Energy Center). If you have any techno you want me to check out, I'm more then willing too!
