  1. MLG Meadowlands Championship Sunday

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Apr 21 2009

With what felt like a lifetime at the event, I was still very excited to be a part of the big day that would eventually determine the 2009 MLG season opener champion.

My main objective for this day was the opportunity to meet with MLG representatives to once again discuss how the GoG can connect with this growing phenomenon. I’ll chat more about that later.

Anyways, it’s always funny on Championship Sunday, because although the pro teams are in full effect on this day, you also get an odd sense that people partied the night before and are beat up from the previous two days of gaming. There’s definitely an excitement in the air, but it’s almost a tired excitement…if that makes any sense.

The Main Stage is packed from the very beginning of this day. In Dallas, we were fortunate to have some friends saving us a spot in front and center, but with Status Quo not doing as well as it was expected (and other things to do besides sit in the stands and watch games all day), I personally didn’t do much more than watch some of the Main Stage’s games from a distance.

On a side note, I realize that the intimate and crowded feeling is great for Main Stage, but I think MLG needs to further expand the seating in this area. All weekend long, people were waiting to get into this area and to allow even more people get involved with the big time games would be great. Nonetheless, there were some amazing games and plenty of crowd roars throughout the day.

Back to the main objective of talking GoG with MLG, I had a great chance to share this project with the VP of Business Development outside of the event expo center. I had talked to the VP of Public Relations at MLG Dallas, so she pointed me to talk with this representative, which I think is more appropriate for what I’d like to see GoG do within the MLG community.

We talked about a few ideas of how we could further connect, but one of the main ideas that seems to have some serious potential, is an idea of having the www.MLGPro.com News Feed directly within this video game community. This would link out to the article on www.MLGPro.com, but we’d develop the little header bar (like Facebook does with outbound links) to notify our members that they’ve left the GoG and give them an easy way back to the site. We'll see where these conversations lead, but look for that flavor of development soon Shocked

Anyways, after that meeting on the outside stairs of the expo center (and checking out the "Meadowlands Fire" together), I was back in the venue saying a few last good byes and watching a few more great matches.

Unfortunately, my flight left at 5pm, so it meant I had to bounce...what a trip.
