  1. MaTrIx Just Call Me Big Daddy

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 16 2010

So last week I had to renew my health card (YUCK!). Afterwards as I walked back to my truck I decided to make a stop at Target. Once there I picked up the newest Xbox Magazine, couple of movies and a book. As I always do when in Target I was walking down the game aisle. Out of the corner of my eye I see...Bioshock 2! It was then I remember that today is the 9th...DUH! Some thoughts on the game? Sure...why not?

    NOTE:
I'm doing something a little different with this review. I will make use of the emoticons, I think they will be able to convey what I feel.

    Story - Shocked
The beginning of the game is really freaky to say the least. Its one of those moments that make your mouth drop open and then you say, "NO SH*T!" Then the game skips ahead to 10 years later and everything is in ruin and someone else has taken over Rapture, its your job to find the Little Sister that is bonded to you. So far the story is good, why the 4.5 then? I haven't finished the game yet. Never fear though because I have experienced quite a few twists and turns already plus I never like to get very indepth on this section as it would ruin the game for others.

Gameplay - Very Happy + Ninja
I am at the moment maybe halfway through the campaign and this is a solid 5. Does it get boring at times? Sometimes it does especially since you have to hunt down other Big Daddies (and take them out) to adopt Little Sisters to harvest ADAM for you. Once you have adopted a Little Sister for yourself is when the fun begins. Splicers begin arriving from nowhere.

Now since the Little Sister rides on your shoulder when she does guide you to a body with ADAM you have to send her into the world to harvest it for you. Sending her into world brings Splicers from all around making it a party. Set up a perimeter to help take out the first ones that wander in and finish off the rest. For funsies use the Incinerate Trap that send the baddies flying into the air on fire, try catching them on the way down with the Speargun...LOTSA FUN!

What does get boring is researching enemies. Point the research camera you're carrying at someone and start blasting away with as many different weapons as you can to find out which hurts the most. This is minor though since you play as like a prototype Big Daddy and have tons of weapons to play with. Little tip for switching weapons...don't tap LB to switch plasmids and RB to switch weapons. Instead hold them down to change things up. Much like in the game Prototype time slows down allowing plenty of time to decide what you want to use next.

    Enemies - Smile + Shocked
This is usually always a big question concerning a game...I will answer.

Cameras and Turrets - Yep these can be enemies also. When cameras spot you an alarm is sounded and security bots start attacking. Hack cameras to stop the alarm and send the bots packing. As a bonus when cameras spot an enemy it will send security bots to attack your enemies for you. Turrets are the same deal. They just begin firing when you're spotted.

Splicer - Easy kill on these weaklings. Usually just a drill run or one or two rounds with the rivet gun will take them out.

Leatherhead Splicer - Little tougher, takes a few more rounds to take a out these guys.

Leadhead Splicer - They usually use either a shotgun or a Tommy Gun. Use a plasmid such as Incinerate on these guys with the weapon of your choosing although I think the shotgun works best.

Spider Splicer - These guys are just like Spiderman, climbing walls, crawling on the ceiling and throwing knives at you the whole time. I recommend the Incinerate plasmid and blast them with the shotgun.

Brute Splicers - KEEP AWAY! Try not to let them get to close or they'll smack you around really good. I recommend the machine gun in short bursts with the Incinerate plasmid while keeping away.

Houdini Splicer - Nope...they don't pull rabbits out of hats or bury themselves alive. They do however teleport around, usually with a shotgun. Good thing is they are only in the later levels of the game, probably the last 1 or 2 levels (Fontaine Futuristics and Persephone) before the end of the game. Easiest way I take them out? 2-3 Swarm Plasmids.

Big Daddy - Like I said before, to adopt Little Sisters you WILL need to take these guys out. Need I say it? STAY AWAY! They have different weapons they use. One I took on was using a type of rocket launcher and was throwing deployable mini machine gun turrets! Use armor piercing rounds with the machine gun or the grenade launcher with frags and keep away!!!

Alphas - These guys are basically you, just newer I guess you can say. They are fairly quick though not as quick as the Big Sisters. They mostly run you and try to pound you into the ground. My solution is to use the Freeze plasmid and frag grenades with the grenade launcher.

Big Sister - This is it (so far for me), the baddest mofo in Rapture. She is always around, you go around a corner and she is at the other end watching. You walk down a hallway with your shadow in front of you and she runs behind you. You usually fight her after a Little Sister harvests ADAM for you.

If you hear a high pitched shrieking...its too late. Luckily there seems to be an abundance of cover when you fight the Big Sisters. Stay in cover and use armor piercing rounds with the machine gun and the Incinerate plasmid to make this girl really scream.

TIP #1 In later levels you will be visited by all enemies when having a Little Sister do some harvesting for you. The only ones that will not show up would be the Big Daddy and Big Sister.

TIP #2: Perimeters are key here! Best one I've figured has 4 lines of defense (depending on your surroundings). Going as follows...Trap Rivets, Incinerate Plasmid, Proximity Mines, Mini Turrets. So lets say you're in a corridor and the corpse with ADAM in it is around the middle section. Starting with enough room lay down 3-4 Trap Rivets, 3-4 Incinerate Plasmid Traps, 3-4 Proximity Mines and finish up the perimeter with Mini Turrets. For a little added safety if you have the Swarm Plasmid send out 4-5 swarms when you start hearing voices after your Little Sister begins harvesting.

Once again, I am not sure if this is the whole bevy of enemies you'll encounter. Once I finish the game and fully researched all the enemies this will be updated.

My Take - Smile + Very Happy + Shocked
Finally a FPS that has convinced me things are good with the world. Not since 2000 has a FPS been able to do that. Graphics are gorgeous and the first glimpses of Rapture are a sight to behold. Enemies are appropriately menacing...and ugly. 2K's use of darkness and lighting is pure brilliance. Gameplay is fast and furious but does tend to lag when looking for a Big Daddy to steal a Little Sister from. Bottom line...Bioshock 2 is awesome no matter what genre specialty you lean toward.

This game was played on Xbox 360...and I DON'T HAVE XBOX LIVE!

I'm lovin' the new emoticon system you're working here. lol And great review. I'm also wondering if you've had an opportunity to try out the multi-player. I personally think this seems kind of tacked on, but i've heard other reviewers say that its solid and lots of fun.

    Very Happy Ninja

Loved the new use of the emoticons for sure and I appreciate this insight on such a big time game!

I think the last comment you made, "Bioshock 2 is awesome no matter what genre specialty you lean toward", says it all and I plan to SHARE this around the web right now! 10/10 Very Happy
