  1. Kupo_Cakes GTA- should It stay on the market?

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jun 27 2008

The anwser is of course! I just got done watching a video on yahoo about a group of teens who went on a violent crime spree, that was influenced by GTA. The teens mugged people, stole cash, ciggerates, and armed themselfs with a crowbar, a broom stick , and a bat. They stole a car, and continued to hit other cars. The teens were all charged as adults. This has sparked controversy, and started the bandwagon of people saying that GTA should be removed from the market because it is influencing kids to do such things. First off, It is sole responsibility of the parents, NOT the game company. It is rated mature for a reason. It isn't sold to those under 17 for a reason. If the game falls into these kids hands it is none other then the parents fault. So do we take this game off the market? NO. People need to stop blaming the game companys, and think of who is buying the game in the first place.

I think the next GTA should have a prison where the main character ends up when they get caught so they get a notion of the consequences of their actions. Kind of like "Oz" on cable, complete with "gay for the stay" convicts who want nothing more than to use you for their sexual amusement duing your entire incarceration. Heck, even a setting like Sona in the latest season of Prison Break would be a cool game scenario, and it might scare a few of these punks straight.

But blaming video games for these delinquents' actions is simply laying blame at the feet of an easy target. Blame lazy parenting, parents who work too long or too many jobs just to make ends meet and can't be at home to make a difference in their kids' lives, peer pressure (any of these kids could have said "Let me out; I'm not comfortable with this" at any point, but none of them did) and other matters that can be controlled or changed. Much of the blame rests in the person himself/herself. They consciously make choices. Most of us learn from bad choices. Others continue to make them, never learning from them at all. The rest of us go on to productive lives. The others end up dead, in prison, or mooching off mommy and daddy until they're 30.

I wonder if any of these haters have ever played a video game?

It sucks that it's so much easier to blame a video game as opposed to address the REAL problem. Removing the game from the market won't change anything. Next time they'll just blame it on a movie they saw.

    What a crock.

EXACTLY! i was going to add on eariler that the kids actually need to get some help if they think its ok to do stuff like that. Anyone should know right from wrong, and shouldnt beat someone up for their money just because they did it in a game. I smell therapy in their futures.

This kind of stuff always pisses me off. Yes, what they did was bad, but does that ALWAYS have to mean a video game is responsible? ANY rational person is able to distinguish what you should and should not do in any given circumstance. These were obviously irrational people and/or complete idiots. GTA is not to blame, nor are their parents. Ultimately, it was their decisions to do all that crap.

That said, I'm going to go on a crime spree and blame it on like Pokemon or something. Laughing
