  1. RyuBlitz Mall of America Guitar Hero III Tournament

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jun 30 2008

Well, as many of you know, I took a nice impromptu trip up to Minneapolis for the Guitar Hero III tournament at the Mall of America. Things went pretty well, and I met a lot of great people. I didn't do the greatest during the competition. Sad All in all, though, I had a great time.

This tournament was designed for large groups; each round, everyone would play one song, and the top X scores would move on. I made it through the qualifying round and had the chance to play in the championship tournament (120 players). However, I was beat out in the first round. The song was Knights of Cydonia (my bane), and only the top ten could advance. The level of skill present wa amazing. The lowest advancing score, 372k, was 10k more than my own personal best for that song, and the high was around 423k.

The top ten then played Cliffs of Dover, followed by the top four playing Through the Fire and Flames, and the Championship match was played on Guitar Hero: Aerosmith; the two battled on Train Kept a Rollin'. These guys were unbelieveable!!! The top TTFAF score was close to 750,000. Incredible. (For comparison, my personal best on that song is 400,000)

The event was a great time, and I was very impressed with my first trip to the Mall of America. Be sure to check out the pics that I'll be uploading of the event; there are some interesting photos of Sonic and Mario dueling Guitar Hero-style, among other things. Smile

Thanks for reading, and if you met me at the tournament, be sure to leave a comment here. I'd love to hear from you!

Well, I might have been able to make it to TTFAF but I would have gotten my ass handed to me there easily. (413 k current high score)

I could have advanced past KoC though, my top is close to 440 k I think. I might have been able to make it past CoD too MAYBE. But yeah, sounds like fun sucka. I've always wanted to go to MoA, someday I'll make it up there. And I plan on making it to another tourney/event sometime in the neat future hopefully if my wrists keep together until then, lmfao. Hey I was just wondering when that tournament was? I have a friend who works at the Mall of America as security, so I'm curious if he was working that day.

Thanks for stopping up to Cyber Ops after you got back in town. It was good to hear about your experience up there. Even better with all the details in your chronicle. It amazes me how many talented people play this game. I would have loved to see a tourney with that many people. Cyber Ops is nowhere near the draw that Mall of America is though! Wink
