  1. Flamer101 Focus Fire Event. La Crosse, WI

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 16 2010

So on Friday the 10th I found my self getting out of my 11 o'clock class, going home to shower, and getting picked up by my good buddy Mark (ViVi), We began our journey to good ol' La Crosse, Wisconsin for the Focus Fire gaming event. When we got there the setup was well underway and we just jumped in. We started to setup the shooter side of the event and hit a few snags but everything ended up well enough. One major issue we ran into was the problems that COD: Black OPS has on LAN. Simply put, it is broken. We eventually found a fix for it and got everything set up for the night. I met a lot of cool people during this set up and made some friends for the weekend. We checked in to the room and hung out for a while and then it was lights out. About an hour after we turned the lights off, in walks Ben, our GoG fearless leader.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, I wake up and shower and get over to the venue to find Mark already hard at work getting everything ready for COD 4v4 tournament and the Halo:Reach FFA. I was put with the task of signing in all of the shooter teams and participants in the FFA so that we could make brackets accordingly. That went well enough and the day got underway. There were a lot of teams there for the 4v4 and the first couple rounds took forever to complete. Then we started the Reach FFA and we ran into the problem that there were players who were in both the FFA and the 4v4 so the rounds of the FFA ended up taking a long time to get through because we had to wait for players to finish their COD game first. It wasn't ideal but it worked and we got through it and everyone seemed to happy. Ninja won the Halo FFA and Team High Minded won the Black OPS 4v4.

Sunday morning started a little slow for me, not getting much sleep, and i woke up a little late. All through out this weekend we were getting hit by a blizzard and I heard as many as 16 inches on the ground. I got over to the La Crosse Center and immediately started signing in teams for the Halo:Reach 4v4 and the COD FFA, Due to the crazy weather and lack of ability to travel there was a noticeable decline in turnout on Sunday but the tournament was ready to start. Halo is my bread and butter so i felt much more at home on Sunday. I spent much of the day reffing the main stage and got to see a lot of exciting halo being played. Including well know players such as former 5K member Hokum, MLG regular Luckside and other known players such as Calm Mentality. It was a very fun day and ended with Luckside's team(Victorious Secret) winning the Halo 4v4 and Way 2 Lucky winning the COD FFA.

We spent the night hanging out with a ton of other gamers, shooters and fighters alike. It was a night full of learning for me and I learned more about fighting games than I could have ever imagined. I realized how much i didn't know and just seeing players like Justin Wong(one of the best players in the world) compete, inspired me to go out and buy a copy of Super Street Fighter IV and have been playing non-stop. We had a bunch of people over to our hotel room and got some pizza and had a good time talking about the tournament and future tournaments. We were up late and it was a fun time hanging out with a lot of new people I would consider friends and am looking forward to seeing at future events. It was a well run event and I can't wait for more. I was happy to be apart of it. Thanks everyone for a great time!

Shout out to ViVi, Riz, Ben, and Tenebris for being great roomates all weekend!

Add me on XBL if you met me over the weekend and wanna keep in touch!

    Until later!

It was great to meet you and nice summary of last weekend's Focus Fire event! Be sure to link this bad boy in the FF chat over on the GoG Forum, as I'm sure Evan and all the event's participants would enjoy the read too.

I'm intrigued by your SF4 purchase and after the conversations we had with folks that lived and breathed fighters, I too am excited to see if we can't bring that community to TIPGC 2011!

See you soon, stay active, and I dare you to spread the word about this place Wink
