Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 25 2008

Its a concept i know we've all heard before. And im sure you've heard of the diffrent number of video game movies coming out. The WoW movie, halo, im sure their cooking up a new resident evil, and another live action street fighter? But answer me this. Has there ever been a video game movie that was good? super mario bros was... O.K, doom and street fighter? horrid. So tell me, do you think its a good idea to keep throwing out more video game movies in the small hope of getting a hit, or should we just pack it in and stop humiliating games?

Silent Hill wasn't bad at all. I liked the first Resident Evil movie too, although it was a bit of a deviation from the game. The others were crap.

I'm excited about the upcoming adaptations of Bioshock and Drake's Fortune.

The Tomb Raider flicks were OK as action flicks but didn't quite nail down the charm of the games.

As long as it's not directed by Uwe Boll, they're usually OK as rentals. Boll's films belong in straight-to-video bargain bins for $1 each, max.

The first Mortal Kombat? And Hitman wasn't too bad, it at least followed the main storyline.
Plus so many games these days try and emulate the movie experience (think vice-versa) and most of them turn out horrid also.
    Uwe Boll must die.

With the unlimited worlds that video games can provide, I think part of the problem is that movie makers can not compete with the virtual worlds they're trying to replicate.

I mean if you think about it, GTA4, CoD4, racing simulations, and many other games are like alot of movies, just with a different story line, haha.

One thing's for sure, movie makers will never quite trying to bank on our favorite video games. I believe as much as video games and movies are different mediums, eventually video games will become more like movies before movies become more like video games...
