Holy crap, I hope I never have to do that again

It started last week when my parent's computer wouldn't load for some reason. I ran a virus scan, ad scan, all the scans, cleaned hard drive, etc. and it still wouldn't boot up. I could get into safe mode and saved only a few of my files from there.
But alas: ALL of my games are gone. Meaning my saved games are no more and I sure as heck am not going to reinstall WoW. I dread all the updating I"ll have to do for Guild Wars and Steam games.
Anyway I tried reformatting and it still froze. I did a complete reformat and it kept giving me a DLL and Kernel error.
I hooked MY computer up and for a few days worked the hell out of it. Hard part was keeping my dad off the porn.
A guy from my church gave me an XP Pro install disc and I set everything up initially in the afternoon. For right now I've been on since about 9 PM trying to update the system and whatnot.
All of my saved internet favorites are gone. All my music. Pictures. Everything.
I can only hope this time will be better.

Posted On Apr 07 2008Ouch, those stories are a bummer for sure. Next time, you might consider getting your hard drive backed up before you go to work. You might also want to be proactive about the situation now and invest in an external hard drive to back up all your data
