Even My Artistic Side is Hooked on Games...
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 11 2008
Well, this semester at Iowa State, I've been branching out a little and taking an Art class; more specifically, 3-D Modeling and Virtual Photography. It's been an interesting class, and I've made quite a few interesting things (my midterm project was a X360 wireless headset). Now, as the semester is coming to a close, I've finished my final project: the Battle Rifle from Halo 3!
The assignment was to choose a complicated object and attempt to create it virtually... Yeah, I got a little carried away. I ended up creating an entire museum display for the rifle, with an included (short) backstory. The setting is supposed to be after the events of Halo 3, say, a few years after the memorial at the end of the game. The Battle Rifle on display has seen it's share of combat action (as shown by the dents on the upper portions, and the scratch on the side), but it has also been pretty well cleaned up by the museum staff. The plaque on the display reads: "Peace hath her victories, no less renowned than war. -John Milton".
Yeah, it's been an interesting class... I've met a lot of cool people, including a few gamers (one of which is modeling the Plasma Sword), a few crazy Star Wars fans, and my girlfriend.
I've uploaded four photos to my gallery, so please, take a look and leave my some feedback. I'd be glad to hear from you!

Posted On Dec 12 2008Pretty good work. As a small critique, it would have been cool to see some more texture applied to it, other then that though, it's superb. If you decide to go this route, stay local, and hopefully we can work on some game projects in the future.

Posted On Dec 12 2008That is one of the coolest things I've seen. Nice job, man!
And I won't even rib you about being a brownie boy and going the extra mile on your project. Effort like that will pay dividends LONG after school is out.
